Hot Pepper Jelly

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2014
This is ridiculous... Why did so many people give this good reviews??? The jelly has the consistency of snot. I made two batches and followed the directions to a T. Either the author of this recipe left out some very important info, or they're satisfied with serving jars of mucus.

Butterscotch Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
This is pretty good; I think mostly it's a good foundation for making a truly excellent bread pudding.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
Rarely do I rate recipes 5 stars; they have to be (literally) the very best in their category. Well, this recipe deserves that status. To add just a hint of "what is that? It's really good!" taste to these already delicious cookies, I add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, a 1/4 tsp. of nutmeg and 1/4 tsp. of ginger; not enough to be able to identify the exact flavors but enough to say, "Wow! I don't know why these are so dang good, but they're like nothing I've had before!"

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
Very delicious and moist bread. Too much sugar though. The second time I made it I used 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar and that was plenty. It did not need any more than that. 3 cups of sugar makes it way too sweet. Other than that, though, this is a great recipe; probably the best one I've tried and I make a ton of banana bread.

Definitely the best apple pie I've ever had in my entire life. In fact, nothing even comes close. It's also easy and quick to whip together. Thank you for sharing your grandma's recipe!

Sweet Potato, Carrot, Apple, and Red Lentil Soup

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2011
Very good corn bread; just a little too much butter for my taste, though. I added creamed corn and diced pimentos to one of the batches I made, it turned out really good! (I had to reduce the amount of buttermilk, though or it would have been too runny)

The Best Thai Coconut Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
Excellent authentic-tasting dish. It tastes just like what you get at an authentic Thai restaurant. I added some fresh Thai chilis for more heat (I like it 5 stars or hotter). Chili paste is also good with this. Thank you for the great recipe!

Belle's Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
Excellent flavor and easy to make! I'm usually not very successful when it comes to yeast breads, but this one turned out perfectly. I added sesame seeds, granulated onion and garlic and a pinch of kosher salt to the tops of each bun and WOW! An explosion of flavor!

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: May 26, 2011
Very good and rich chocolate cake! Great chocolate flavor, wonderful airy, light texture... I added a couple of things to my second batch to spice it up a notch; 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 package of chocolate pudding. It turned out phenomenal! Also, you can easily halve this recipe with no problem if you don't need to make that much cake. All in all, excellent scratch-cake recipe!

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
Excellent recipe with one small exception; too much sugar. The first time I made this I followed the recipe exactly as written and it was o.k., but it was just WAY too sweet. The second time I put only half the amount of sugar called for and it was perfect. Also, I substituted balsamic vinegar for the distilled white vinegar and I used half olive oil and half canola oil (since olive oil is so expensive) and it turned out superb! With some minor tweaking, this recipe makes the perfect strawberry salad!

German Lasagna

I followed this recipe as written, and it turned out superb!!! My family is from Germany and even my pickiest eaters agree that this lasagna has a very authentic "German" taste. My husband asks for this lasagna on a regular basis. Thank you for the great recipe!

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
This dish was excellent! Restaurant quality, in my opinion. I made it for my uncle's 50th Birthday and it was a huge hit. I only added about a third of the amount of honey the recipe called for as none of my family are big fans of sweets. Also, it worked better to just soften the butter rather than melt it. It spread very easily on the salmon that way. Thanks for the great recipe!

African Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
This was EXCELLENT! The first time I made this I took the advise from other reviews and added celery and reduced the peanut butter a bit, but when I made it again according to the recipe it still was phenomenal! This is a great recipe because you can throw in whatever you happen to have on hand and it still turns out tasting really good.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
This is truly the most amazingly delicious stuffing I have ever had in my life... no joke! I followed the recipe exactly when I made it for Thanksgiving, but the day after I made this again, this time substituting the ground turkey for a pound of sliced sausage turkey and that tasted really good too. Thanks for the great recipe!!!

Cajun Crab Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
I made a couple variations to this recipe; I added 1/2 lb. of bay scallops, 1/2 lb. salad shrimp, and 1/2 lb. lobster and extra cream to make it more of a chowder. OMG it turned out SOOOO good!!! My father-in-law owns a Bed & Breakfast and he is a fabulous cook, but when I presented this as part of his seafood themed birthday dinner, he was begging to get the recipe from me! Thank you for this great recipe!!!

Rolled Fondant

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
This is a great recipe! I have been making cakes for years but this is the first time I've worked with fondant. This recipe is very forgiving and good for inexperienced pastry chefs. My cake turned out so well, I was looking for any excuse to make another one right away. Thank you!!!
