Juicy Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2009
I beg you to try this one as written! Don't be one of those fools who write, what a delicious recipe! Then they proceed to tell you about the 1oo herbs and spices they added to this recipe. LIke I always say - if ya change the recipe that is nice - probably delicious - but it aint't the same recipe no more. This one is delicious - keep your hands off!

This is a great Anadama bread - made just as directed! A winner in our house. CookinMama should submit her version as a new recipe - I am sure it is good - and look forward to trying it soon.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
Go with the white sauce as written and you will not go wrong! I had some fresh broth on hand, which went into my pies, and I roasted a large chicken and used the meat to make this fantastic Chicken Pot Pie. I had a party of five people so I made two of these pies - they were a huge hit. The proportions of the vegetables and chicken meat were perfect. I will definitely do this one again and again. Thank you

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2015
I made this pie exactly as presented and it came out perfectly. I made a butter crust for this one. The last step in baking the crust, I gave the crust a brush up with an egg white wash and baked it an additional 3 minutes to seal the crust. The result was a nice flaky crust with a fabulous banana cream filling. To obtain the best results do not omit baking the pie before chilling it in the fridge. I would guess that those who ended up with "runny" or "soupy" results did not cook the filling long enough to set up or chill in the refrigerator for the recommended time. Do that and you will have a winner.

Joe Froggers

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2009
Very nice molasses cookie, however not a Joe Frogger. Two Stars for effort. I knew it was "off the mark" when I saw the cut out cookies with a sugar frosting on top!!!! For the real poop on these, one can go to Marblehead Magazine and read the best recipe for these cookies. There are other sources for the same recipe. Notably Eleanor Early's great cookbook, which was published in 1954, "The New England Cookbook". Note that they DO call for rum, butter shortening and combining the baking soda with the molasses (Not mixing the soda in with the flour, etc.) Find a true "rule" for these and DO NOT MAKE ANY SUBSTITUTIONS to enjoy a true New England treasure. And pass on the temptation to dress them up with sugar frosting, please.
