I am so happy to share that after owning my KA mixer for 7 endearing months, I have finally decided on a name for him.  I am naming him 'Dexter' after my favorite TV show.  And I believe it is fitting, since he chops, slices, grinds, and beats anything that is deserving of his… MORE

About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes and often buy things that are new to me just so I can experiment with them. I love allrecipes.com because it allows me to put in almost any ingredient I have and find a way to prepare it. The user reviews are also incredibly helpful.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was raised on good 'from scratch' cooking. My mother often made homemade pies, chicken noodle soup, and also a lot of German/Scandinavian foods.
My cooking tragedies
Cooking with an old hotplate in my in laws basement when we were young and didn't have our own place yet. It electrocuted us constantly so we needed to wear tennis shoes and a wooden spoon!

Linnie's Spanish Rice
Very good and easy, I put this in my steak tacos. Not too sure if Id like it as a stand alone dish though. I did sautee the rice in butter first and also added some beef boullion to the water when I cooked it. I took the suggestion of others and cut down the salsa to just 1 cup but it still seemed a little runny, if I had not been in a rush I would of tried cooking it down longer, but it was good anyway. I will make this again when I make steak or chicken tacos (with my changes of course).

Amish White Bread
Very good and easy recipe. Great bread for anything that tasted a little like hawaiian bread.
