Honey Roasted Almonds

I made these for the Beautiful Salad on this site. INCREDIBLE. No one in the house could stay out of them. Barely had enough for the salad. Am making more today for our New Year's Eve party. Made as directed except substituted turbinado for the sugar, used sea salt, and melted expeller-pressed coconut oil for the almond oil. This is a keeper. Thanks so much for sharing Behr!

Salmon Patties

Followed recipe as written but did not have saltines so subtituted bread crumbs instead (approx. 1 T for ea. cracker). The cornmeal gave it a really nice crispness. For those that complained about them falling apart, be gentle! You'll be rewarded with a really nice and easy salmon patty! Make it even better...serve with the Creamy Dill Dipping Sauce from this site. WOW...

Chicken Fried Chicken

I would give this 10 stars if I could! I didn't have saltines so used 1-1/2 C bread crumbs, 3 T flour, 3 T potato flakes, 1 t salt, 1 t seasoning salt, 1/8 t garlic powder; and 3 eggs. With a meat mallet, flattened the chicken breasts to about the same thickness and cut into strips. Took the suggestion of another reviewer and first dipped the strips into the breading mixture, then into the eggs, then again into the breading. I refrigerated them for a couple hours (this is what I do when I make chicken-fried steak, too) and then fried in olive oil. By far the best chicken strips I have ever had! Kids and hubby loved it, too!

Spiced Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Yum! I made a double batch, following the recipe except for incorporating these suggestions from other reviewers: I used one whole red pepper that I roasted and instead of adding back some of the liquid from the canned beans I added olive oil (about 2T. for the double batch). The olive oil really gives it a smoothness that you don't get otherwise. Thanks for sharing!

Jo-Ann's Power Bars

My kids love these and really feel like they are getting a treat. Some things I changed, though, based on what was in my pantry & personal preferences: 1. Did not have Grape Nuts or sunflower seeds, so excluded those; 2. Used 3/8 C applesauce-no oil; 3. Substituted 1/4 C Molasses for the brown sugar; 4. Used 1/3 C Craisins; 5. Added a pinch of salt and 1/4 C Wheat Germ. Next time I might even add a little vanilla... Lots of possibilites! Great recipe to get creative with. Thanks for sharing!

Bread Pudding II

Excellent. Used leftover cornbread and 1 C frozen blueberries. We had guests for dinner and served this for dessert...everyone raved over it. Definitely a keeper!

Simple Maple Syrup

Great alternative. Used 1 C brown & 1 C white suger as other reviewers suggested. Tasted very sweet just out of the jar, but was really good on our waffles I think partially because it is thinner you don't use as much. Trying to get away from corn syrup and other additives like we are? Give this a try.

Sweet Potato Casserole VII

Served this at Thanksgiving and it was the new family favorite. I didn't have any coconut, so substituted finely chopped walnuts because it is what I had on hand. I personally would have liked it to be not quite so sweet, but I was alone on that !

French Fried Potatoes

Really good! My family liked these better than the frozen type. I took some other reviewers suggestions and fried 2 min. in 375 oil; allowed to cool for about 10 min. then put back in the fyer for an additional 5+ min. A keeper!

Original Nestle® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is our family's favorite chocolate chip cookie! We enjoy a softer cookie though, so I add an extra 1/2 C flour. Also, not big nut fans so I always skip those. Bake for 9-10 minutes and take out of the oven before they look done. Allow to sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes before moving cookies from baking sheet to a rack to cool. Also I love using my Silpat silicone baking mats...they make a great cookie and make clean up a breeze. Enjoy!

Lisa's Macaroni and Cheese

Based on other reviews, I used 1 lb (1-3/4 C) dry macaroni), 10 oz. shredded Tillamook cheddar & 10 oz. shredded mozzarella, 1 C milk, 1 tsp dry mustard, 1/2 tsp pepper. Placed in a 9x13 pan and dotted with 2 T butter and 3 T bread crumbs. Important to allow to sit for 15 min. after baking to retain its shame when cut. With the amount of fat from the cheeses, I think next time I'll skip the butter on top. Comfort food at its best!
