Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2014
Today is the second time I've made this and I think it's great. The first time I made it, I followed to a T (except I used all purpose flour) and it was phenomenal. Today I did everything the same except I substituted one cup of flour for wheat flour. I just had a piece and it is still fantastic, but I like the all white better. I add all the sugar and I don't think it's overly sweet; in fact, I think that sweetness is what makes the bread special. I have made dinner rolls with this too and they're great. I have left the dough rising for more time as well, but I prefer to make the recipe exactly as written. I brush each loaf with a tablespoon of butter as soon as they are out of the oven. My husband loves this bread and I do too. Thank you for the recipe.

Quick and Easy Hollandaise Sauce in the Microwave

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2014
This was OK and very easy. I have never had hollandaise sauce before, so I have no idea if mine was close to how it really should be. I microwaved 3 or 4 times in 10 second intervals. It was nice, though and I would make it again.

Fluffy Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
This was ok for a quick substitute at 11:30 pm. I didn't make the glaze, I just rolled them in cinnamon sugar. I also don't have a donut pan, so I dropped little spoonfuls into hot oil to make donut holes. The batter was a bit sticky, so I prefered to just handle it with two spoons. They were ok, but, like others said, they don't taste as good when they cool off.

Molten Chocolate Cakes With Sugar-Coated Raspberries

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
I made this for New Years for just my husband and I so I halved the recipe. I love the simplicity! WHen I finished mixing everything up, I got really nervous because the batter was extremely liquidy, so I went ahead and added the entire 4 teaspoons of flour (for half the recipe) and put the batter in the fridge. It was there for about 3 hours and when I went to take it out just before dessert, it was so thick it was practically a solid! Whoops! I left it out at room temp. hoping it would soften up, but after about 20 minutes I got impatient and just grabbed my muffin tin, greased with shortening sprinkled with sugar and filled the cups. There were 4 little cakes. I baked them for about ten or twelve minutes, but I had a lower temp than recommended just in case. I took them out when the sides looked baked and the center wet. They were perfect. A brownie-like, slightly crisp exterior and a fantastic gooey, chocolatey center. Restaurant quality with no effort. Next time I won't add the extra flour.

Double Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
I made this pie for Christmas with my mom and everybody loved it. I made mini pies and there were 6. It was very rich though, and only one person could finish the whole mini pie in one round. They were all devoured in the end, though. I have to say that I was a bit worried because my pudding wasn't thickening up, so I added a bit more cornstarch. But the thing that helped so much was when I transferred some of the chocolate to the egg mix, that helped it thicken up quickly and a lot but I did end up stirring a good 15 minutes. Don't under mix because I think it could be very runny if you're not patient enough. So my pie ended up a little too thick but that must have been because the extra cornstarch, either way it was fantastic. The whipped cream is not optional because it balances out the richness of the chocolate.

Blackberry Cobbler II

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2013
I thought this was pretty good, better than other cobbler recipes I've tried but I must say I did make a few changes based on the other reviews; not too many, just a bit less sugar on both the blackberry part and the dough. I liked that you boil the blackberry part, I think that is crucial and I also added a touch of cinnamon to both the dough and blackberry parts. I made it in a pie plate and the proportions were perfect.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2013
I made as directed, except I seared the meat first to lock in flavor. It was ok, not great. I´ll keep looking for other pot roast recipes though.

Best Chicken Ever

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
Really good recipe. The breading is great with the sour cream and seasoned corn flakes. Like others, I used ziploc bags and clean up was easier. I just had to fry because I was low on time, but I really liked the recipe and will make again.

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
This will be my pizza crust from now on, it is perfect, it is just as described, slightly crunchy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. I made one pizza and breadsticks smothered in garlic butter and everything was great! I do have to say that the breadsticks tasted even better the next day reheated in the oven. Thank you :)

Beat and Bake Orange Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2012
Excellent recipe! I made this for my fiance´s bday and I usually never take the risk of trying a new recipe for a special ocassion. I´m really glad I did. I followed the recipe exactly, but I was concerned about moisture, so the only thing I changed was I added half the milk and the other half yoghurt. I also made it in a bundt pan. It was done in 30 mins. I also made the frosting, it´s really good, but a tad too sweet for my taste. Still would make the frosting again, but maybe a bit less powdered sugar. Refrigerated overnight and it was great. Fantastic recipe.

Vanilla Crepes

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
Really good recipe, the texture and flavor is perfect! Made mine by mixing everything in the blender and let sit for about 5-10 minutes before preparing. In the meantime made fillings. One caramelized banana with brown sugar and cinnamon and the other with canned guavas. Served also with vanilla ice cream. Thanks!

Tiramisu II

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
Okay first of all i have to admit I substituted a lot of things, but it still came out spectacular. Everyone LOVED this dessert though they all said they´ve never had tiramisu like this one so I don´t know if what I made cann even be called that. I subbed mascarpone cheese with 2pckgs cream cheese, 3 tbsp sour cream and a bit vanilla. I subbed the ladyfingers with plain poundcake. And I didn´t have rum for the coffee mixture so I used brandy instead. Oh, I also added a hint of cinnamon to the brewed coffee. And yes, you have to double the coffee mixture recipe. And MANDATORY refrigerate 48 hours. Sprinkle cocoa just before serving. WOW!!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
These were good, but I guess I was expecting something mindblowing after reading all the fantastic reviews. I didn´t make them in the breadmaker though, I just followed some suggestions on making them by hand. I would have liked them more if they were softer and they tasted a bit too yeasty. Not bad though.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I made these last year and I can`t believe I hadn`t rated them. Wow is an understatement. I used devils food cake mix and betty crocker chocolate frosting. I garnished by sprinkling a melted chocolate bar. I refrigerated overnight and served as ^truffles^ after a semi formal dinner. They looked so elegant and tasted great. Everyone thought they were from some gourmet store. Thanks for the recipe!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
This recipe was pretty good, I decided to indulge myself since I´m single this valentine´s... I have been looking for my ¨keeper¨ brownie recipe, but this is not it. I followed recipe exactly, and it was a bit too sweet for my taste. It cooked about 10 mins longer and consistency was nice and fudgy. I have to say boxed brownies still taste better, granted these are not as oily.

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
These are pretty good, I´m glad I tried the recipe. I followed the recipe exactly except that I reduced sugar in filling to 1 and 1/4 cup. I also used half brown sugar-half white. They were still a bit too sweet for me, so maybe next time I would try just one cup sugar. The crust is nice and buttery, but I recommend evening and flattening it out really well because it rises a bit. I used wax paper to line the pan and it did the trick. Good recipe, very nice and rich. Definitely a keeper.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
This is a pretty good recipe, and the only reason I´m giving it 4 stars is because it takes a really long time to dry. About 7 hours. I think you should make a note of it in the info, because I was making them for a party and the icing never hardened, so I couldn´t pack them without making a mess. Still, I would make this again, the day before my event now that I know how it works.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
These are fantastic! Very versatile, and they´re nice and soft. Definitely chill the dough so it´s easy to work with, and keep the dough you´re not using in the fridge while you work with bits at a time. I couldn´t find my cookie cutters, so I used a champagne glass to make circles and the size was perfect. I used the " sugar cookie icing" recipe here to make christmas spheres, trees and snowmen. Thank you for the recipe!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
I guess I was expecting a lot out of this cookie after reading all the great reviews. I´m making christmas cookies for a bake sale and although they taste good, they did not make the final cut. My dad liked them ok, but he agrees they´re a bit too simple.

Sweet and Sour Sauce I

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
Gosh, I´m sorry but this just didn´t cut it. I tasted it as i was making it and it wasn't good. I tried adding orange juice and other tweaks, but that didn´t help much. I served it anyway, warning my family that it wasn´t an ordinary sns sauce, it didn´t taste as bad with the spring rolls and chicken, but definitely not what i was hoping.
