I tried this recipe tonight and my husband says, it's the best chili he ever had. I followed the recipe almost exactly, just added some of my own little "twists": I used 1.5 lbs hot Italian sausage and 1.5 lbs 93% lean ground beef. Added 2 habaneros in addition to the other veggies (we like our chili hot)! Sauteed all the veggies (using olive oil cooking spray) prior to adding them to the pot. (I always do this when adding veggies to sauces, think it adds a great flavor). Put the 4 beef boullion cubes in 1 cup of water, boiled it, and threw that in the pot. The beer I used was PBR. Also I only used about 1.5 tbsp of chili powder (thinking I could always add more later if need be, but that turned out to be enough for me). So just a few small tweaks, other than that followed the recipe exactly, and it's a keeper! Thanks!
