Mardi Gras King Cake

I can't believe I made something so pretty! I followed a few suggestions 1) I split each 1/2 into thirds and braided. It looked beautiful. 2) Omitted the raisin because I don't like them. 3) Used walnuts because that's what iI had on hand. 4) Cooked at 350 for 27 minutes and even that seemed too long. So, for the second one, I cooked it for 25minutes and it was still a little drier than I would have liked. Next time I'll decrease the cooking time by another few minutes to see if that makes a difference. 5) I used a thinned out cream cheese frosting to ice the cake and it added a fantastic flavor. This was a great recipe. I cannot wait to make it again! Thank you sooo much for posting it...my guests were thoroughly impressed.

Grammy Burnham's Molasses Cookies

These were fantastic! I was looking for a recipe for a bakeoff and this is one! I modified it a little the second time and they were even better! I decreased the sugar to 3/4cup, decreased baking soda to 1/2 tsp and instead of raisins, used dried cranberry and chopped walnuts. i got 48 good sized, insanely delicious cookies.

Cream of Pumpkin Soup

I've never had pumpkin soup before so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I followed the advice of other reviewers and added cayanne pepper. It had a lot of levels of flavor, when I first tasted it, it was like pumpkin pie, then the heat of the pepper added a savory flavor to it. Also, I used 1% milk with just a splash of heavy cream to lighten it a little. For the croutons, I used a whole wheat, day old, bakery loaf and used olive oil, parmesan cheese and a little s&p. i thought the cinnamon croutons would be too much with the salty/peppery flavors. I really enjoyed it. It's not a soup I would eat everyday but it's very tasty and super comforting on a cold autumn day!
