No Tomato Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2015
I have a tomato allergy and have been researching different recipes for a while. I think this recipe is a great recipe to start with. I make mine in the slowcooker to really stew the flavors together. I've found canned pumpkin is great at cutting the sweetness, just add a spoonful at a time to taste. For replacing tomato tartness I've been experimenting with jarred capers, jarred pimentos, lemon/lime juice and vinegar. Mushrooms and bouillon can add a deeper depth of flavor. Good luck.

Chocolate Pumpkin Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2011
These are really moist, no pumpkin flavor, but plain as far as taste goes. You can add some pumpkin spice to the mix as others have done or you can have your flavor come more from the frosting (like cinnamon cream cheese frosting). Many nutrition experts say we should all be eating more pumpkin and this is one more easy way to do that.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
This is similar to a baked Sour Cream Chicken recipe I've used for years. For those who found this pork chop recipe bland, here is the chicken recipe which has a few more flavor ideas you might try: 1 1/2c plain yogurt or sour cream, 1/4 c lemon juice, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1 garlic clove, 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper; marinate overnight, coat with bread crumbs and bake at 350 for 45 min.

German Sausage Chowder

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
A great way to get your family to eat cabbage. This reminded me of a "Cream of Cabbage" chowder. I added a bouillon cube for every cup of water I used. I also used garlic salt and white pepper for the salt and pepper. Finally, I used the very finely shredded cheddar cheese. I added the cheese a little at a time (maybe 1/4 cup at a time) and stirred until it melted before I added more. The cheese melted pretty quickly so this didn't take very long.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2007
Almost like muffins, very tasty. I could imagine using this recipe as a base and adding raisins, chocolate chips, nuts etc if you wanted. If you are in a hurry you can sprinkle with powdered sugar (if you don't have time for frosting).

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
I have made this many times with decaf coffee and love it. I have also found that this recipe works well with smaller cuts of pork too (pork chops, or whatever else is on sale...). Infact if your halved pork roast isn't getting as tender as you would like, try quatering the roast before cooking next time.

Island Kielbasa in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
If you are looking for something different and like "sweet & sour" you might want to try this. It probably won't go over well if you have a house of picky eaters. I used crush pineapple, 1 can tomato paste, 1/2c brown sugar, 1 cup ketchup and after it had simmered I added some water to thin the sauce a little. Served it over rice.
