Hot Crab Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2011
Made this yesterday for Xmas Eve dinner, and everyone thought it was okay. Personally I felt it was too overpowering of crab flavor - I know, that's supposed to be the idea, right? But it was too much. Not sure if these made a difference, but for one, I bought fresh lump crab meat, didn't use canned. And since I cut the recipe in half, I should have needed only 6 oz. of crab but my Whole Foods container size was 8 oz. Would those 2 factors have made it too crabby? I don't know. But I'm not ready to abandon this recipe, it seems like it has potential. Like other reviewers said, it did seem like something was missing from the taste. Guess I'll just keep at it...

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2011
This was a pretty good marinade. We had some leftover New York strip steaks that were pretty tough thrown straight on the grill. I threw them in this marinade (using only 1/4 c. balsamic vinegar as others suggested) and it really helped. The steaks were more tender and tasty. This is a good marinade to spice up some bland red meat.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
A very moist, flavorful bread. Delish! I worried that all the batter would fit into one pan & possibly overflow, but it didn't at all. Makes 1 large loaf. I used 5 bananas and it came out great.

Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2011
Contrary to a thousand other reviewers, I am only giving this 3 stars. True, they were super easy to prepare. Yes, the meat did fall off the bone. But my rating comes from the fact that 1) they had no taste until we slathered on more sauce after removing them from the foil, which the recipe does say to do, and 2) I guess I like a little crunchiness to my ribs. These were soft all the way around which made the meat literally fall off and a little mushy. I like gnawing on bones for my meat if I'm going to indulge on ribs! ;) I'll stick with eating ribs when I'm out at a restaurant.

Shrimp and Mushroom Linguini with Creamy Cheese Herb Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2011
Followed the recipe to a 't' and it came out delicious. Some observations that others have probably already mentioned: I did all the cooking in one pan (shrimp, then shrooms, then sauce). Love it! The butter/cream cheese mixture curdled a touch while simmering, so I'll follow others' advice & warm those on low heat. Once I added the boiling water, it mostly smoothed out. Threw it all together, and voila! A very yummy dish you can alter to your own preferences.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Very very good exactly as recipe calls. I didn't add any sugar & they were still full of flavor. Even the picky 11 year-old said "This is a keeper, Mom."

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
This is just how I like my potato salad - on the chunky side, not too gooey creamy, not too heavy on the mayo, with a good crunch from the celery. I made half the recipe tonight with a "lighter hand" on everything: 2 eggs instead of 3 (although I would have liked a tad more of that, so I should have done 3), not quite half a pound of bacon crumbles, used green onion rather than white, and did what other reviewers recommended using half mayo/half sour cream. Yum-my! This may be the winner for our annual 4th of July bbq.

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
Not sure where I went wrong, but it really wasn't that great. And I didn't get a gravy out of it! I used a 2lb tenderloin (too much for 3 of us), 2c. leftover pinot noir (others have recommended burgundy wine and only 1c.), and 1 packet of gravy mix. It never thickened to make gravy. So although the pork was very tender, it didn't have much flavor since there was nothing to pour over it. Maybe I'll try it again with less wine...

Fudge Puddles

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
I agree with some other reviewers - the fudge centers were not so great. Way too sweet and not truly chocolatey. The cookie part is a keeper, but you should definitely experiment with the puddle.

Yummy Roll Ups

My mom was making these for me when I was in 5th grade in the early 80's. They may sound weird, but they are really delish. And since many other reviewers felt they could rate this recipe after changing everything, I say shame on you. These are the best just the way they are!

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
These were pretty good. Very brownie-like and chewy, which is how I like my cookies. The dough was really sticky (even after 4+ hrs in the fridge) and rolling them in powdered sugar was messy. But worth it in the end.

We aren't big on spinach salads around here, but we LOVE this one. The dressing is very unique and tasty. This has become our Thanksgiving salad tradition.

Peanut Butter Bars I

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
Wow and yum! Those words came up often when I served these at a family bbq recently. They are very rich and taste just like a Reese's candy. Like others suggested, I decreased the amount of butter to 1 1/2 sticks, rather than 2. I had to run to 2 different stores to locate graham cracker crumbs, but def. worth it. Some of my family would have liked more of the peanut butter base, so I may try upping that next time. VERY delicious!

Banana Cake Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2010
Just had one out of the oven - mmmm! I, too, made a few alterations: I omitted the cloves (not a fan), didn't add pecans but rather chocolate chips (we are chocoholics around here), and left off the icing this time. I also found I needed to add additional flour as the dough was very runny. I'm guessing I added about another 3/4 - 1 cup more. They came out fluffy & cake-like. I will make them again!

I found that these were just okay in taste. Not bad, just not enough flavor. We're definitely going to stick with the "Marinated Grilled Shrimp" recipe from this site instead. It's MUCH better.

As a fan of potatoes, ranch, and cheese, this was right up my alley. To suit my family's tastes, I used less ranch and more cheese. It was very good. Can't wait to try leftovers tomorrow for lunch.
