Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
This was great! If you have problems with the bread being flat you may want to check your yeast to make sure it's still good and make sure it's room temperature. For toppings, I tried several things - on a few I did roasted red pepper and cheese, others rosemary and sea salt, more with several cheeses, and a few with carmelized onions from this site and blue cheese. They were ALL great. Kids liked the plain cheese best but all the adults liked the the carmelized onions and blue cheese the best.

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
I'm not sure if I did something wrong or what but it was soo sticky. I had to keep adding flour again and again to even get it off my fingers. It actually turned out well and tastes pretty good but it was so frustrating that it didn't feel like bread dough should. I will try again - see if maybe I just messed it up so will put it at a neutral 3 for now.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
Very good! I didn't follow it exactly because I didn't have any tomato juice so I instead used a can of diced tomatoes, a can of diced tomotoes with peppers. I also included 1/4 c brown sugar and a handful leftover peppers I had from the garden. It was great!

Butternut, Apple and Yogurt Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
Really good! I had some leftover squash and this worked great as a half batch. I couldn't get the kids to eat it though. I'll still make it again!

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
Light and fluffy and worked really well even for sandwiches. I didn't bake it in the bread machine but instead put it on the manual setting to mix and then put it in a loaf pan in the oven. I think it turns out lighter that way. I agree it was a little salty so next time will add a little less salt.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
Great recipe! I've made it a couple times now. Tonight I realized at the last second that I didn't have brown sugar so used white with a bit of molassas. Since I was already deviating from the recipe, I also thew in a 1/2 t cinn., dash of nutmeg, and 1/4 c wheat germ. Worked like a charm! I also used just a few T water and I liked the consistency a lot better.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
Fantastic! I made them in the evening and put them in the fridge overnight. Then I let them sit out for 30 minutes before I put them in the oven. Worked like a charm, they rose both overnight and again before they went in the oven, probably tripled from when I first put them in the pan. I reduced the sugar by about 1/3 and they were still sweet but I might do a little more next time as I like them really sweet.

Potatoes and Peppers

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
Great recipe! Reminded me of restaurant potatoes! I used about half the oil since my pan was nonstick and it wasn't greasy at all. I don't like my potatoes quite so blackened so I cooked the potatoes in the microwave for about 6-7 minutes while I fried the onions and peppers.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I've made these several times. I'm not sure I've made them the same way yet but they are always very good. I do some with chocolate to keep the DH happy and sometimes PB and sometimes fruit and sometimes nuts, whatever I'm in the mood for that day.

Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2009
I tried using 1/2 the sugar so my kids wouldn't climb the walls. They loved it but I think I prefer the extra sugar. Also, it was a little dryer than I expected but it's my own fault as I used a little less butter (trying again to be healthier). I will either use full amount next time or maybe just eat it with ice cream! (Heathly-smealthy...)

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Not bad and really easy. I think I like the higher rise crusts better but for a quick dinner this worked well.

Baked Sweet Potato Sticks

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
Not bad, I liked it with a little extra salt and spice or it seemed too bland. I guess I just am programmed to like them with butter and brown sugar.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Yum! I was surprised at how easy it is too. My only change was I used 1/2 wheat and 1/2 bread flour. Now I look forward to trying the other reviewers suggestions.

Easy Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
I've made this twice, once without tahini and then I finally went and bought the tahini and it was so much better! I also cooked the beans and added a t. olive oil and I think it made for a smoother consistency. It's really good!

White Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
The taste was okay but for some reason it was really runny. I didn't use shortening, just doubled up the butter, so maybe that was my problem. Or maybe I didn't let it boil long enough. Regardless, it ran off the cake and didn't cover at all. Since I didn't follow the recipe exactly it didn't seem fair to give it a 1.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
These were great! I should've sprayed the whole pan though as the topping melted under the muffins and and now I have a big sticky mess! Good idea from the reviewer who said to wait until the last few minutes to add the topping.

Not bad. I added powdered sugar and it reminded me of french toast. I think I'll make again with some changes as suggested by the other reviewers and see if they come out a little better.
