Bacon Tomato Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
I made this exactly as written and thought it was good. Next time I would double the bacon and use half the amount of butter and flour. I think maybe those who were disappointed by the flavor were expecting something more like tomato soup. This is a chunky, cream-based chowder with a subtle tomato flavor.

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
I made this as written, except that I used two 16 oz. bags of frozen corn. Served as a side dish at Christmas and everyone liked it. The bowl was emptied, not a bite left over! Easy to make and very good. Wil try fat free cream cheese next time.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I made this with butter instead of margarine, 1/3 less fat cream cheese and reduced fat soup. It was tasty, but perhaps a bit rich and salty. I might try reduced sodium soup next time. I made just as written and allowed the chicken to cook with the seasoning and butter before adding the soup.

Campbell's Kitchen Mexican Stroganoff

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2010
I made this last night and it was pretty tasty. Only change I made was to leave out the onions, since I didn't have one, and I used regular cream of mushroom soup, not the roasted garlic variety. The sauce was delicious and I could not stop sneaking bites while I was finishing up cooking. Really easy, too. I think next time I might try to make it healthier by using reduced fat soup, fat free sour cream, and ground turkey instead of beef, and we'll see how it goes. The sauce as written is delicious, but pretty rich.

Slow Cooker Sweet and Tangy Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
I made this exactly as written and served over rice. Delicious! I used Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce and crushed pineapple, and cooked on high for three hours. The meat was fall-apart tender. My boyfriend commented that he'd like this better as a sandwich filling, so I think I will add cornstarch some time for a thicker sauce and serve as sandwiches. However, I also think it would be delicious over rice with vegetables such as carrots and peapods added. In that instance I think I would prefer the diced pineapple to crushed, because the pineapple chunks make this more like a sweet and sour dish - which is basically what it is, but with a barbecue flavor. I know I will make this again soon!

Garden Veggie Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2010
I made this as written, with two exceptions - I didn't have any nutmeg or onion powder, so I left those out. Oh, and I used less butter than called for. Anyway, the soup was fantastic! Nice, thick, smooth texture. I used a bag of frozen California Blend veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots - and included the sliced celery also. I loved this and plan to make it many more times. I also froze about 1 and 1/2 portions, so we'll see how well it freezes.

Lemon Mushroom Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
This tasted good, but there are a few things I will do differently the next time I prepare it. I followed the advice of another reviewer and dumped my leftover flour/herb mixture (of which there was quite a bit) into the sauce to thicken it and add flavor. It turned out TOO thick, with a gross globby texture, which is my fault for adding too much. So the next time I make this, I will only make half of the flour mixture called for, and then only add a little bit of what's left over to the sauce. I also didn't taste much lemon in this. I didn't use the lemon zest, because I didn't have any, so I will add that next time, and also plan to add mushrooms to the sauce next time, because we love mushrooms. The taste was great, though - I made this over egg noodles. Oh, and one more thing - I only used half the amount of butter called for, and it wasn't enough. I will use the full amount next time. In other words, next time I will do a better job of sticking to the recipe.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2010
Made this exactly as written, except that I used low sodium soy sauce, and I baked it covered with foil for the first 20 minutes or so. It turned out very well. I think next time I will half the sugar. This is a keeper, though!

Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I made this exactly as written except that I used two cans of cream style corn. I think this was a mistake and made this more of a soup then a chowder. Next time I think I'd use one can of cream corn and one can regular corn, to make it more like a thick chowder. I also think I will shred the chicken next time. However, the flavor was good. My boyfriend liked the way this turned out more than I did.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
Made this last night and it was great. I stuck to the recipe except that I waited until the last hour to add the chopped bell peppers. This way they softened up but still had a bit of crunch left. The only things I' do differently next time would be to omit the salt, as it was a touch too salty, and use a better cut of meat. I used the precut stir fry strips as well, and we thought the meat was the worst part. However, overall this is really delicious and will be made again.

Baked Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
I made this according to the instructions, except for adding the pieces of butter, which I forgot to do. It was still really good! I did not think it was too sweet as other reviews have mentioned, although I do think I will try salting the chicken next time. This was enjoyed and complimented by all.

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
I didn't follow the recipe exactly, but used it as a guideline. I used one can crushed tomatoes, eight ounces of vegetable broth, 1/3 cup half and half, one tablespoon sugar, three tablespoons butter, and eight chopped basil leaves. It was very tasty - the only thing I'd do differently next time would be to blend the crushed tomatoes first, for a smoother texture, and make more - I only ended up with two and a half servings.

Seasoned Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2009
Easy, quick and tasty - I didn't have garlic powder, so used an equivalent amount of garlic salt, and based on other reviews I only used 3/4 of the onion soup mix. Will definitely make again, possibly with a bit of the onion soup mix combined with sour cream to make a spread to top them off. Oh, I also used Worcestershire sauce instead of soy sauce.
