I host our Independence Day celebration every year, but this year I just didn't feel like having ribs again.  I was getting a bit bummed about the whole thing - but then had an idea I just have to share!

What is more "American" than hot dogs?  And did you know how many different ways there are to dress a Dog?  Here's what I've decided to do. . .put out pictures and descriptions of all the following Hot Dogs with all the fixings so my guests can make whatever type their hearts desire!

New York City's Street Cart Dog - griddled onions, sauerkraut & spicy brown mustard
Detroit Coney Dog - beanless chili, fresh chopped onions, yellow mustard
D.C. Monumental Dog - mayo, fresh onions, banana peppers, red peppers, pickle spear
Chicago Style Dog - yellow mustard, relish, fresh onions, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport pepper and celery salt
Wisconsin Beer Brat - mustard, onions, sauerkraut and beer (to drink)

YUM-O!!  But so hard to decide, I want to try them all!  And with my guests all bringing a dish to share, it'll be a feast for all, Good Eating :)

Now I just need to come up with some games that Grandmas down to 6 year olds can partake in!

Happy Grilling Everyone, and HAPPY 4th!!!

A hot dog bar! Sounds great! We had an "old-fashioned" cook out on Father's Day and everyone enjoyed it. Speaking of games - many, many years ago when my kids were very young we pulled out a slip-n-slide for them to play on because it was about 100 degrees in the shade. My 84 year old grandma joined in the fun as well! We were all afraid she'd break a hip, but she didn't and she had a blast. My kids still talk of when great grandma played slip-n-slide with them! Have fun!

Well, Mother Ann, are you as game as grandma? What a great memory. We are having hot dogs with the 50's style coney sauce (from AR), and BBQ chicken for the granddaughter who doesn't eat hot dogs.

A slip 'n slide would've been awesome, I'll have to remember that! Turns out that even with all the directions and ideas, people tended to go for the traditional relish and mustard on the hot dogs and sauerkraut and mustard on the brats! haha!
