Came from a family that cooked. Dad used to own a restaurant, Mom was a baker but not by trade. I've cooked since I was able to stand on a chair. Also I've cooked in restaurant, Mom and Pop style, nothing fancy. Now being retired I cook for myself, picky husband and chunky chihuahua!
My favorite things to cook
Mexican is asked for me to make most of the time but I like Chinese and hot sandwiches. If I like to eat it, I like to cook it as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditions? Like grabbing my favorite denim apron with the large pockets? Constantly washing up as I cook including my hands, sometimes putting on a little movin' music to limber up old joints with a drink, now all diet 'cuz I'm trying to cut down on a few bad things for me.
My cooking triumphs
While at the restaurant all alone just before closing I got hit by the Army! One hundred and twenty (120 yep) men all hungry. All different orders from burgers to lobster and a doggie burger on top of all that. No one to help and that meant no one to help with the dishes! If I can do that I can do anything!
My cooking tragedies
First time living away form home and broke, tried making bread from the little I had at the time, Ha, when it finally broke after several months of tossing the bread frisbee around the living room, it looked like yellow glass! Another during the same time period, making speghetti sauce just from ketchup, salt and pepper. Can't believe we ate that, heavy on the pepper helped.
