About this Cook
I am 30, have a 7 yr old son, and have been dating my sweetie for 5 yrs. We have 2 dogs, Lily and Nola, and they are spoiled rotten! Cooking is like therapy to me, I love coming home at the end of the day and cooking something w/ my son and boyfriend and just enjoying time with them.
My favorite things to cook
We love to grill/smoke! You name it, and we've tried grilling/smoking it. Pasta is something I have cooked since I was 12, and have mastered several recipes. Mexican, any kind of chicken, and anything I can throw in the crock pot! I love cooking at the end of the day or even throwing it all in a crockpot and just letting it do it's own thing. It's still better than going out to eat!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My parents made me start taking care of one meal a week when I was 12. It didn't matter if it was sandwiches, soup, salad, or pasta, but I was in charge from start to finish, and because of that, and the fact that I was the only cook in the family for about 2 months when I was 13, because my mom had Mono, I have learned to really enjoy cooking. I also STILL, at 30 yrs old, LOVE to watch my Grandma cook, she teaches me something every time I am in the kitchen with her!
My cooking triumphs
Being able to impress my Grandma with my cooking is a HUGE triumph! She is amazing in the kitchen!
My cooking tragedies
A particular crock pot chicken recipe. I've never thrown food out, but when I came home and smelled that it almost made me sick...it went right down the disposal!

Aussie Chicken
This was a big hit for us. I made as directed with the one exception of the corn syrup. I didn't have any, and after reading the reviews, it seemed like it would be plenty sweet without it, and it was. The homemade honey mustard was DELICIOUS! Don't cut corners by using premade...it's very quick and easy to make, and was awesome! Will make again for sure!

Refried Beans Without the Refry
I stuck to the recipe except for using chicken broth instead of water, and omitting the salt (until serving), and reducing the liquid by 1 cup. I just thought it seemed like a lot. I cooked on low for about 14 hrs, and then mashed. I added a bit too much of he liquid back in, and they were a bit soupy for me, but that was my own error. The next day they were better. My BF who doesn't even care much for beans even liked these a lot. My son couldn't believe these were homemade. haha Will make again for sure.

Smoky Mountain Chicken
Made this last night, however I didn't have ham or the tomato to garnish. Still turned out great. Was a big hit for both my son and my BF. Will make again for sure!
