Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I used a round steak, yellow onions instead of green, fresh mushrooms instead of canned, and red wine instead of white. This was very good. Served over wide egg noodles. The only thing I would do differently is eat it fresh. I made it a day ahead so that it was ready to go for dinner the next night when I wouldn't have time to cook. I think it would have been even better fresh off the stove top.

Easy Decadent Truffles

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I made these for valentine's day. I normally don't make sweet treats. These were SO easy and they tasted DELICIOUS! I don't even like sweets very much and these are about as sweet as it can get, and I have eaten more of these than my fiance who I made them for who loves candy!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I would definitely make these again. I added blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. Next time I will double the batch, as the original recipe only made 4 or 5 pancakes for us.

Italian Bread Wedges

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
These were pretty good, tasted like a garlicy cheesy pizza without sauce. I would make this again. Gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because it was a bit greasy and also the leftovers were not very good.

Easy Swedish Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
This was good. My fiance was a big fan. I have never eaten pie and always refused it. I had a small sliver of this and thought it was nice. Similar to apple crisp, but not as sloppy.

Baked Brunch Omelet

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
I made this for brunch on Christmas day. It was really good, we both really liked it. It was much tastier than the typical scrambled eggs I make on the weekends. I think it will be a tradition to make this each year on Christmas from now on, especially since I got engaged to my boyfriend while this dish was cooking in the oven! Even our 1 year old ate some of it, too.

Turkey Drumsticks

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
This was ok, not great. The flavors were just kind of weird together and didn't blend well. The turkey itself was pretty good and tender, but I didn't care for the tomatoes and onions, which are usually some of my favorite ingredients to cook with.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
This was really good and tasty! I did use extra white wine since we both love the added flavor. I have used this recipe twice and am excited to use it again! We always buy the wild Alaskan salmon...tastes best to us.

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
This is a wonderful recipe. I've made it twice now. It does take some time and patience, but the end result is well worth the wait. I left out the portobello mushrooms and cut down a little bit on the white mushrooms. I used onion instead of shallots. I used about 3 and 1/2 cups of chicken broth, and 3 cups of white wine because I love using wine for cooking. I will make this again and again.

Golden Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
I must have done something wrong. We usually really like potato soup, or anything with potatoes, but this was bland and had a grainy texture. I did leave out the ham and celery, but I don't think that those would have made a huge difference. Probably won't make this recipe again.

Pigs in a Blanket

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
This was pretty good. We weren't going to be making a whole lot of these and I didn't want to spend the extra money for mini weiners, so we just bought hot dogs and cut them in half. They were pretty good, but next time I think I'd skip the cheese. Couldn't taste the cheese at all, and it leaked and made a mess of the cookie sheet!

Irish Eggs

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2009
This was a good heavy breakfast that I made when we were up in the Boundary Waters for a weekend of fishing. I added some extra red and green peppers and about 1/2 an onion, chopped. I did cook the potatoes for a little bit before adding the other ingredients. I didn't want the potatoes to be crunchy/uncooked. Topped with a bit of cheese and some pepper, and it was delish!

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I made this pretty close to how the recipe was written (lots of times I add or subtract ingredients according to my own preferences). I did not bread the chicken, as I was trying to keep this pretty healthy. We thought it was really tasty. Next time, I think I would add another can of tomatoes. Usually I would much rather have fresh tomatoes and stay away from canned, but not this time. They gave the sauce good flavor and texture. I will probably make this again sometime.

Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I added a can of mexi corn and shredded the chicken. I also subbed half and half for heavy cream since that's what I had on hand and I wanted to get rid of it. The chowder tasted pretty good, but it didn't seem very healthy, despite all the veggies I put in there. I also had to add quite a bit of hot sauce to give it some kick. Overall, it was decent. I probably won't make it again anytime soon, though.

Portuguese Chicken I

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
This was really tasty, but next time I will double the sauce because that was the best part. Delish! Could go with rice or potatoes, using sauce as a gravy.

Chicken Fiesta Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
A variation of taco salad. Very tasty and pretty healthy, too(as long as you don't load it up with cheese, dressing and chips!). I will make this again many times.

I think I made them right, I just didn't care for them. My boyfriend liked them and loaded them up with bacon, cheese and sour cream.

Decadent Raspberry Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I used about 1 1/2 cups of sugar, and that was about right. These were VERY rich, especially with the thick frosting on top, but a nice thing to have on the dessert table with all the light fluffy cakes and whatnot. I put these on a tray with raspberries scattered around the brownies and filled the middle section with raspberries, too.

Cucumber Sandwiches III

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I think that this is the best summer snack there is. It's very refreshing! My mom has always made these with pumpernickel rye cocktail bread, so I did the same. Other than that, I pretty much followed the recipe. YUM!

Fruit Pizza III

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I used Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and rolled it out and cut into a rectangle on a piece of tin foil on a cookie sheet(easy removal of cookie). I let it get light/medium brown in the oven, and cut into serving-sized squares before hardened. After it cooled, I mixed Cool Whip and some vanilla extract with an 8oz block of softened cream cheese and spread that on the giant cookie. Allrecipes was down, so I had to improvise a bit with the topping, but it was still good. I made a square of blueberries, and then alternated the red stripes with strawberries, raspberries, and maraschino cherries(stems plucked out). The only thing I'd do differently besides the topping next time would be to make it the day I was serving. It got a little bit soggy overnight, but still went over big at our family 4th of July celebration!
