Chicken Stew with Dumplings

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2011
This is a wonderful recipe! In my opinion it tasted better than most of the shortcut recipes (canned soup, refrigerated biscuits, etc.) with very little additional effort. I used poultry seasoning rather than the basil and thyme because it was what I had on hand. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly and it was delicious!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
We really enjoyed this version of beef stroganoff. Next time I will use sour cream rather than cream cheese as I prefer the sour cream flavor. Adding the mushrooms at the end was a great idea; they really cook down though so err on the side of adding more rather than less.

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
I found these to be dry and bland. The blandness can be taken care of by adding spices of your choosing, but it is more of a starting point than a go to recipe.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
This recipe was okay, but not a winner in my book. I thought the hoisin overpowered everything else and without clear instructions the onions cooked down to a mush. It needs some tweaking to mirror restaurant style lettuce wraps.

This had everything I wanted/would expect from a basic beef stew. I followed the recipe as written and it was easy and good.

Carrot Cake Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
I was looking for a carrot cake experience without having to bake a cake that serves 20 people. These cookies came close. They aren't as moist as traditional carrot cake and they aren't very pretty to look at but overall they weren't bad.

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
This was so delicious, no one had any idea it was so quick and easy. I plussed up the herbs a bit and added about half of the rosemary, oregano and garlic powder to the bowl while I was tossing the chicken and potatoes with the EVOO and then sprinkled the rest on top. The fresh herbs were great but I will try it with dried herbs too as I don't always have fresh herbs on hand. Watch the cooking time; mine was done in about 40 minutes.

Wisconsin Native's Beer Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
This soup was delicious! My one complaint is that even after 30+ minutes of simmering the veggies, they still maintained a bit of a bite. Next time I will cook the veggies until tender then continue with the recipe as written. I'm sure I will be making it again soon as my husband has requested that we have it on a weekly basis.

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
I LOVE this batter. I make sure to have it in the freezer during the fall and winter months. We use it with rum, apple cider, butterscotch schnapps (my personal favorite) and coffee. DELICIOUS!

Cheddar Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
These were delicious and so easy! The next time I make them I think I will try using sharp cheddar as the medium cheddar flavor got kind of lost in the biscuit.

Incredibly Cheesy Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
An easy, delicious weeknight meal! I skipped the ketchup topping and added a little more cheese (shredded rather than cubed) to the top after it came out of the oven. Keep an eye on the time/temp as mine cooked much faster than the recipe indicated. I also found that it turns out less dry when using a higher fat ground turkey. I prefer the drier version, my husband prefers the moister version.

Snickerdoodle Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
This cake was good. A basic white cake with cinnamon and sugar on the top. I'd definitely recommend reading through the reviews and adding some cinnamon, vanilla, extra topping layer, etc. to jazz it up a bit.

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
What a great recipe! The marinade was easy to throw together (with ingredients I almost always have on hand -- a definite plus!) and the flavor was excellent. I will definitely be making this again!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
A good banana bread. I used mashed banananas instead of sliced, added some cinnamon to the batter and sprinkled a little cinnamon sugar on the top.

Pasta Shells with Portobello Mushrooms and Asparagus in Boursin Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
Yum! This was delicious! I love how easily adaptable it is. You can use more or less of the mushrooms and aspargus to fit your taste and use whatever flavor of Boursin cheese that strikes you. I also think it would make a great sauce for steak and/or chicken -- eliminate the aspargus and pasta and reduce the chicken stock (to 1/2 cup maybe?) and you have an awesome (and easy) portobello mushroom sauce. Great recipe!
