Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
a pretty good cookie, but not quite chocolately enough for the chocolate lovers in my house. they were also confused/put off by the powdered sugar on the outside of the cookie.

Onesy-Twosy Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
this is the absolute perfect peanut butter cookie! the only thing i did different was to use an extra chunky peanut butter, and omit the extra nuts.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
love this corn bread!! only change i made was to use masa (corn flour) in place of the AP flour--it made a coarser crumb.

Mama D's Italian Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
it seemed simple enough, but as a bread-making novice, i had to unearth my baking textbook from culinary school to read up on bread making technique, because the instructions were rather unclear. The resulting bread, either as a result of my inexperience, or the recipe itself, was dense and heavy... I didn't mind it, (especially dipped in some seasoned olive oil) but my husband thought it was too dense. I'm willing to try it again, but the hubby would rather I didn't.

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2010
Unfortunately at the time I made this, I was going through my "hate all things creamy or cream based" phase of morning sickness. But the whole family raved! I used it to ice a pumpkin spice cake of my own recipe.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

these pancakes were much too bland and didn't rise enough. definitely not good for people who enjoy sweet pancakes.

Stuffed Breast of Veal

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
while the stuffing is very flavorful and good, i felt the seasoning on the veal itself was lacking.

Saucy Apple Pork Chops

love this recipe. instead of canned sauce, i use the Applesauce by Rachel recipe from this site and serve alongside some potato pancakes with sour cream. delish!

Polish Sausage Kraut Skillet

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
we didn't have polish sausage, so i substituted some beer-boiled italian sausages. it was absolutely fantastic served over rice. my only complaint is that the potatoes were a bit overcooked by the end. otherwise, very good--extremely tasty.

after searching for ages for the "perfect" pancake recipe to emulate the best diner-pancakes i've ever had, finally one that's not tough and has amazing flavor! my only pet peeve is the number of ingredients, but these pancakes are totally worth it. my whole family loved it.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
i've only tried the yellow cake, but don't worry, i won't be trying any of the variations. i made this cake several times thinking it was something *i* was doing wrong, and even tried some the modifications suggested by other reviewers. this cake, as is, is way too sweet and DRY DRY DRY.

Simple Garlic and Basil Pesto

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
This pesto was AWESOME. I omitted all nuts due to allergies in the family, and instead added a bit of chopped sundried tomatoes. Also added a little salt, but otherwise used all ingredients in proportion. I used it as a sauce for a white pizza and my entire family raved.

Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
this recipe was just okay. i found them slightly bland, and i even added green onions to them to try to up the flavor. one thing to remember when using a boxed pancake mix is to make sure it's not too sweet. otherwise they just taste funny.

Salmon Steaks with Dill Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
Absolutely fantastic! My family raved over this sauce with the salmon. My only criticism is that I like my salmon closer to the rare side, and even when I cut the cooking time in half for the salmon, it still came out WAY overcooked (super well done). I absolutely do not recommend cooking the salmon for longer than 10 minutes, even if you prefer your salmon well.
