My favorite things to cook
I always like to cook new recipes; new ingredients, styles, techniques and cuisines keep me going. I can appreciate the skill it takes to make the perfect bolognese sauce but I really enjoy a new challenge, like how to use a celeriac for example. I always strive to be a better cook with each meal that I make and hope to continue that for a long time to come.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a town that is very proud of it's traditions, food topping the list. It brings me great joy to be able to replicate my Grandmother's Croatian recipes, some of which I can't even pronounce properly. Her plum dumplings and crepes are delicious, I strive to make them yearly.
On my maternal grandmother's side, I learned to make the best galumpkis and pierogis. I am now learning to cook other traditional foods from my boyrfriends Mother and grandmother, I love their matzo ball soup.
My cooking triumphs
Last nights dinner:
Mushroom and Mazto Meal Stuffed Cornish Hens, Pumpkin gnocchi and Roasted Green Beans with garlic and shallots
My cooking tragedies
Making a baked chocolate dessert, I forgot to beat the sugar into the eggs before adding the eggs to the dry ingredients, it became a solid rock that was un-salvagable. It was really expensive dutch cocoa, what a waste!
