Creamy Horseradish Garlic Spread

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I served this with grilled Roumanian skirt steak this weekend and we all loved it. We have since enjoyed it with crudites and my daughter put it on her salad. The only thing I may do differently the next time I make it (and there will be a next time, it has already been requested for our 4th of July barbecue)is eliminate the minced garlic and increase the garlic powder a bit. I minced it very fine, but you still came across little bursts of garlic as you ate. Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

Peaches 'N' Cream Dessert

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly, but instead of assembling it in a 13x9 I divided it into 2 8" deepdish pans and reduced the baking time by 5 minutes. We loved it and the person I gave the second pan to keeps calling to tell me how good it is. Thanks for a great new recipe.

CJs Cold Cucumber soup

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This is so simple to make and packs a lot of flavor. I used plain, non fat yogurt in place of the buttermilk and seedless Korean cucumbers, skins and all. It is the perfect thing for this hot weather. CJ, thank you so much for sharing this recipe in your blog!

Syracuse Salt Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
These are a treat. I used fingerling potatoes and kosher salt, but I made sure I had a nice salty brine. My guests raved about how good they were. The outside had a slight salty crust and the potatoes were silky and creamy. Thanks kapsmary, this is a keeper!

Chilled Beet Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2011
I love cold soups, but usually you have to cook something then chill it. This is so easy. I thought it had the perfect tang from the lemon and sour cream ( I used reduced fat ) and we didn't even notice the onion ( I used half a Vidalia ) My only complaint was I didn't make enough! Oh and in my house - real men do eat pink soup! Thanks for a great summer recipe.

Frozen Strawberry Cheesecake Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2011
These are amazing! I only got 10 finished sandwiches because the cookies got raided before I made the filling. They are that good. It is quite a bit of work to make the components, but that is probably a good thing or we would all be pudgy! Thanks for a fun recipe.

Fresh Asparagus Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
Thanks, Nanook - this is a winner. Instead of vegetable broth I used shrimp broth and I omitted the parmesan cheese. This makes a creamy but light soup, bursting with flavor. We will be having this again.

Amazing 'Pizza' Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
Recipe Group selection of 6/4/11. I've never be a fan of boneless pork chops because I found them lacking in flavor. I had a few in the freezer that I needed to use, but not looking forward to them. This recipe solves that problem easily. Thanks for a simple, flavorful way to use them.

Cinnamon Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
Thanks, Anne, this is a great recipe. I needed something impressive to take to a BBQ on short notice and this filled the bill perfectly. I had to substitute FF Greek yogurt for the sour cream, but you would never know the difference. I also don't have a 10" tube pan so I used a 9" bundt. It just fit, whew! Instead of greasing and flouring the pan, I sprayed it with butter flavor no stick and dusted it with about 1/3 of the brown sugar cinnamon mix. I used most of the rest inside the cake and just dusted a small amount over the top. It baked up moist and delicious, but not too sweet, in 50 minutes. I'm happy to report there wasn't a crumb left.

Parmesan Zucchini Spears

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
This was such a lovely surprise. I expected it would be good, but it was very, very good and so simple. I have never cooked zucchini without garlic before, so I wasn't sure this would be flavorful enough but the lemon zest does something amazing to the zucchini. Thanks, Judy this is a keeper!

Boozy Birdy

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
I am happy to be the first to review this new recipe with a glowing reccomendation. I was staring at a package of BLSL chicken thighs, trying to be inventive when I happened on this recipe. I used homemade sazon seasoning because all I could find in the stores had MSG and I actually had achiote from the gift exchange, and my SIL's homemade version of Big Daddy's BBQ sauce. This was a hands down winner and will be made often this grilling season. Thanks Patty!

Mommy's Loving Care Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
These are great! Since I decided to make them around midnight, I had to make a few minor changes due to lack of ingredients. I only had 1/2 cup of butter so I used 1/4 cup butter flavor shortening, which I think tends to make cookies a little greasy, so I used 1 1/2 cup flour. I always add a teaspoon or two of instant coffee to chocolate recipes to deepen the flavor. The rest I did as written. They turned out fantastic! They aren't puffy, but certainly not flat either. The edges are crispy and the centers are moist and slightly chewy. Thanks Litily, these will be made again.

San Diego Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
We really enjoyed this. I marinated my chicken for over 24 hours due to a change in plans so I was a little worried, but it was fine. I didn't baste because I was afraid I had saturated the meat so I cooked the remaining marinade down and drizzled it over the cooked chicken. The balance of flavors was spot on crisp and clean. Thanks for a nice change of pace.

Italian Style Brunch Cakes

Recipe Group selection 4/2/11. What a great addition to our usual Sunday brunch. The only change I made was to omit the pepperoni so our vegetarian guests could eat them. Good job, Sal!

Heart-Shaped Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2011
Recipe Group selection of 2/5/11. Despite my multiple errors this came out wonderfully. I had to add about an additional cup or cup and a half of flour to make a workable dough, then what I thought was a package of walnuts was actually sliced almonds, so I toasted them and chopped them up fine and used them. Then there was the inability on my part, to comprehend the shaping directions. I finally figured them out and shaped one heart and realized I don't have 2 pans large enough for 2 cakes this size, so I just made a crescent of the second cake and baked that on my pizza pan. As I slid the first cake in the oven I realized I hadn't brushed the butter on before adding the filling. In spite of all that they came out and taste wonderful. I will probably even make them again, although not two at the same time. Thanks, Norma this is a keeper.

Grilled Blue Cheese Pears

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
Wonderful! I didn't add the butter to the bleu cheese. I just brushed each pear half with the hot suace/oil mixture and added the bleu cheee to the cavity. I broiled them in my oven for about 15 minutes about 6 inches from the heat. Genius idea, Beth - Thanks
