Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
This recipe is perfect as is! But - if you want to make it healthier, you can eliminate the cheese and add some other veggies. I added red pepper. The whole family loved it!

Meat Pie (Tourtiere)

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
This meat pie was pretty good. Note that you should let the pie cool for 15 min to settle, otherwise it will crumble when you cut it into slices.

Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
I love this crust! I have used this crust for both sweet and savory pies and it works for both. However, I like to replace the salt with sugar for sweet pies.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
Really good! I followed this recipe exactly and I would only make 1 adjustment: mix the chicken mixture with the sauce mixture before placing into the pie. Otherwise - it tasted great!!! Update: upgrading to a 5 star!!! This is the best pot pie ever!

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
First time I have ever made banana pancakes and they were awful... too fluffly almost too gross to eat. I will never make these again. I don't think bananas belong in pancakes :(

Blueberry Spread

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
I am editing my review since it is now about 6 months later and I have just thrown out the jars I made... totally stiff! Less gelatin next time...

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
A wonderful pie! I made two with a full crust on the top and I baked them for 1 1/2 hrs. I increased the startch to 4 tablespoons and it probably could use about 5 per pie.

Alan's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
This recipe is very similar to the one I've been using! I use 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of lard/shortening for every 2 cups of flour. If I am using the crusts for a pie, I add a tablespoon of sugar to the flour mixture as well to make it a little tastier! I find that the butter makes the crust very tasty and tender while the lard makes it very flaky - the best of both worlds! Note: Remember to always start with really cold ingredients when making crust, when heated, the lard will pop to make little flaky pockets of buttery flavor! In addition, brush the top of the pie crust with an egg white before baking so that it looks glazed and golden when it comes out of the oven!

Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
I cut this recipe down and I had enough to cover a 9 inch cake, top and sides! -2 cups icing sugar -1/2 cup (one stick) of butter -1 teaspoon vanilla -2-4 teaspoons of light cream Use less cream for a thicker icing and it wont be dripping down the sides.

Never Fail Applesauce Spice Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
Unbelievable!!! I've made many cakes and this one is very quick, easy and delicious! My boyfriend is a real critic when it comes to deserts, but he loved this cake. I followed the recipe exactly except I didn't quite have enough applesauce so I topped it off with some plain yogurt instead... I finished the cake with some vanilla butter cream frosting and it was perfect!!! Thank you... I will definitely be making this again!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
Really yummy muffins! I made them the night before I left for a car camping trip and they stayed so fresh...better than Tim Hortons! I skipped the topping since I thought that would make them too sweet and I used half brown sugar/half white sugar. I used fresh blueberries, but I think frozen would be okay too.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
This cake was very rich and chocolately!!! I made this for a birthday party and everyone had a nice big slice! I covered it in chocolate icing... Mmmmm I used 1 cup of hot espresso instead of hot water - thats the only thing I changed :)

Blueberry Upside-Down Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
I made this cake today for my dad and grandfather (father's day!!) and they both really enjoyed it! I made a few changes - vanilla extract and no almonds and I used a bundt cake pan. I also mushed the blueberrys a little to get them just a little runny and sugary... Mmmm perfect with a cold glass of milk! The other reviews are right when they mention that this cake is done in 45-50 minutes. I only wish that the cake wasn't so dense and low looking... maybe next time I will try more baking soda? Any other suggestions?

Best Guacamole

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
This was so easy and it tastes great! It makes a lot of Guacamole for one person so I think next time I will split the recipe in half. I put the Guacamole on a homemade hamburger and it was just delicious!

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
These were amazing!!! I added a cup of chocolate chips since I just love chocolate and peanut butter deserts. These brownies are so moist and chewy we couldn't stop eating them until they were all gone. Great with a glass of milk :)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
I make this recipe without the topping and with a few additional ingredients: I add a teaspoon of vanilla and a teaspoon of cinnamon. This works well for muffins or a banana loaf :) This is a really good recipe for beginner bakers since it's so easy you really cannot ruin these muffins!
