The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2012
Fantastic recipe! Rolls out beautifully and holds its shape very well. I followed the other reviewers recommendations and increased the sugar (though only by 50%) and doubled the vanilla, and the flavour was wonderful. Not too sweet, but not bland either. The texture was perfect if taken out of the oven JUST when the edges start to brown - nice and chewy, but still sturdy enough to withstand a lot of handling while decorating (I made fire truck and dalmation cutouts for a fire-themed party - the dogs had long legs and tails, and none of them broke!) I accidently over-browned my last batch, and while the cookies were hard, they still tasted great. LOL. I would definitely recommend this recipe to anyone looking for the perfect rolled sugar cookie!

Best Cream Of Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
Very good flavour, but quite thin. I'd add more flour/butter/milk next time, and maybe less broth. I chopped up the entire broccoli stalks, not just the florets. No need to waste the stems! I served it sprinkled with shredded cheddar cheese and some garlic toast on the side.

Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
Followed the recipe to a T and found it a little bland. :( The texture and everything was great, it just could have used a little more flavour. Might try some of the other reviewers' suggestions next time!

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
Absolutely fantastic! I followed the recipe exactly with one exception - I cut the sugar to one and a half cups. I even used my own fresh pureed pumpkin, although I'm sure canned would be good too! I must say these are absolutely beautiful, I'd even say bakery-quality, muffins. They are moist and have a perfect consistency - cakey on the inside, and that perfect, ever so slight crunch on the outside. :) Will definitely make these again!

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
In a word - SUBERB! I usually use cake mixes because I've had bad experiences with from-scratch cakes in the past, but I was impressed by all the great reviews for this recipe. I halved the recipe (which is why I wasn't using a mix to begin with), and cut the sugar by one third, and I ended up with 34 mini cupcakes (probably would have been a nice round 36 if I hadn't of kept "sampling" the batter!) The result was beautiful, perfectly formed little pieces of chocolate heaven. :) A decadent cocoa-y flavour, not too sweet, and just the right moist, dense (but not heavy) texture. The muffin liners even peeled off easily. I think I'd just have to call this The Perfect Chocolate Cake!

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
Fantastic, and so quick and easy. Just made this for the second time, and was able to whip it up in just a couple of minutes with my clingy 15-month old in my arms. I didn't have red wine vinegar on hand so I subbed balsamic, and it was very good. This makes chicken breasts - which are notorious for drying out on the grill - so juicy and tender - I will never BBQ them without this marinade again!

Blueberry Breakfast Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
I had 2 lbs of blueberries in the fridge that were in danger of going bad (Costco had a sale and I went a bit nuts) so I needed a recipe and I needed one quick. This fit the bill perfectly! I followed the recipe exactly for the first batch, and while it was AMAZING I did find it a bit sweet. So for my second batch I reduced the sugar by a third, and for fun threw in a tablespoon of Cointreau. Soooo good. Can't wait to try this on cheesecake and waffles (if I don't eat it all by the spoonful first)! Jan2012 edit: I'm still regularly making this recipe, and have even canned some to sell at our church's Fall Fair and to give away as Christmas gifts. Compliments all around. :)
