About this Cook
Some say I'm a picky eater....I say I'm a "particular" eater. I only like fresh ingrediants, nothing canned, boxed or bottled (with few exceptions). I hate seeing recipes on this site that used canned soups and canned vegetables, or people that substitute canned items in the recipes and then rate them poorly. Of course it's not going to taste as good if you use canned items! I am one of the lucky people in my age group that learned to cook from my mother, and her mother and her mother! How few of us today know how to really cook using fresh ingrediants!
My favorite things to cook
Italian, asian, grilled meats, seafood.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving has to be my favorite. My mom and I cook well together and spend 3 or more days preparing everything. Nothing canned, bottled, or boxed in this dinner!! Everything is from scratch, which is part of the fun of this amazing meal.
My cooking triumphs
I'm not much of a baker. In fact, I pretty much suck at it! I'm not sure why. Maybe because nobody in my family was ever much of a baker. We are all great "cooks", but not bakers. Anyway, one year, my husband and I went to an Easter Brunch at a local restaurant. They served an excellent lemon layer cake as one of the desserts. My husband absolutely loved it. So, I set out to try to duplicate it. I searched and searched until I found a recipe that sounded similar to the cake. It had several layers, including lemon curd, lemon frosting and 4 layers of white cake. It took me literally 9 hours to make this cake. I made the lemon curd from scratch, the cake from scratch and the frosting from scratch. Then had to assemble the 4 layers and frost it. What a task for a non-baker! But, it came out great and my husband loved it!
My cooking tragedies
I made one of the silliest mistakes ever on my favorite dish one time. I love to make alfredo sauce and use a low fat version with cottage cheese, low fat ricotta, etc. The recipe calls for a tsp. of sugar (which brings out the flavor of the cheeses). By mistake, and I have no idea what I was thinking, I added 1/2 cup of sugar!! Oh was it bad! I threw the whole dinner away!

Unbelievable Chicken
OMG! I don't know what it is about this combo of ingredients, but this marinate is fantastic! I didn't change a thing. Have my second batch of chix breasts marinating now for grilling tonight! Fresh, sweet corn on the cob goes great with it!

Ingrid's Caesar Salad Dressing
While this may be a tasty salad dressing, but I don't think ti should be called "Caesar".

Sherry Apple Pork Chops
I made this last week while visiting my parents for Christmas and we all loved it. I followed the basic recipe, only adding a touch of cardamom along with the cinnamon and brown sugar and since we didn't have sherry on hand, I used apple juice. It was totally YUM!!
