I grew up in Chicago. I'm a White Sox fan and, of course, a Black Hawks fan. I'm married with 3 daughters and 1 granddaughter (all adults). I'm an RN, working in a Special Care Nursery.
My favorite things to cook
Ribs, Mediterrean chicken, flat bread pizza, pie, anything pasta.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner. All the traditional foods. Each year I've tried a different type of Turkey recipe. On the grill, baked, covered in puff pastry, different basting sauces or marinades, or a different stuffing. Always, fresh cranberry sauce (whole berries) no orange zest or other flavors. I'm a purist when it comes to cranberry sauce.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that the family wants me to cook again. From simple meatloaf to quiche.
My cooking tragedies
Every cook has flops. Mine was making an all "French" dinner for about 15 people. The table was set, the wine breathing, the quiches were perfect, the crepes tender and full of flavor, but the boulibaise was awful. Every cat in the neighborhood was at my door, the fish smell was overwhelming. The entire pot was grey, very fishy. I had the freshest fish, shellfish and vegies, but the homemade broth (from fish bones) was gross. I couldn't get it out of the house fast enough. The fish smell was their for a week. I have never tried "fish stew" again. I had several glasses of wine to try to erase that memory. Now years later I can almost laugh about it.
