I'm a wife, mother and the best grandma in the whole world - according to my kids! I love to cook and entertain. I'm especially fond of baking. My family enjoys my cooking and when my children were youngsters, they often embarrassed us in restaurants when they would exclaim "we like your cooking better mom"! Of course I left always with a smile on my face! Even now my family would much rather eat at home than go to a restaurant. I'm now teaching my granddaughter how to bake - sometimes it's tedious but rewarding when she is pleased with her results.
My favorite things to cook
Baking is my specialty. I love to make cakes adding various ingredients to create my own ideas. Fruit and cream pies, homemade bread and rolls and noodles rank very high also.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cooking is a big production in my family. One family hosts the event and provides the entree and everyone brings side dishes. We try to bring a new selection so we are always tasting new things. We also love old favorites that our grandmas have made in the past. We especially like my mother's recipes for homemade orange yeast rolls and grandma's egg noodles and my husband's grandmother's recipe for Date Nut Pudding. We do a couple of day long baking sprees to make cookies for exchanges at Christmas making traditional recipes and specialty cookies.
My cooking triumphs
In my senior year of high school I won the Betty Crocker award - do they even have that anymore?! My friends and family all love get togethers when I try new desserts on them.
My cooking tragedies
I made pumpkin pies for my oldest daughter when she was having a dinner party. She really bragged about my baking so all her guests were looking forward to having dessert. Unfortunately, I forgot to add any sugar and the pies were not edible. Her guests politely refused to finish their dessert and to this day still tease me about it!
