Chocolate Mice

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2001
This was fun to make and my husband said they were tasty. One suggestion, line an old shoe box with tin foil and poke air holes in the top. Then, add some chocolate sprinkles to the floor of the box. Serve the mice in the box and it will look like they've been living there for awhile:).

Pizza On The Grill II

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2005
Great idea! We tried this the other night and were a little nervous but it turned out good. Make sure you have all of your prep work done, there is no time to waste after you flip the crust over. Also, slice your veggies small/thin. Our mushrooms didn't cook well & the crust was getting too dark to leave on any longer. Next time, I'll slice mine thinner and turn down the heat after flipping.

Kentucky Hot Brown

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2002
Yum! I haven't had this in years and was so happy to find it here. I did revise a little to make it how I was familiar with it. Instead of individual sandwiches I made it into a casserole by layering the bread, turkey, sauce, bacon, tomato, more sauce and finally some parmesean cheese. The bread was a little soggy so next time I will toast it more before and I didn't add mushrooms, I can't stand them. Oh yeah, I added about 1/2 c. of cheddar to the sauce as well. Thanks again for the recipe!

Barley Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2006
This was a pretty good soup. I had to make some minor adjustments, I didn't have Thyme so I didn't add it and I added cubed potatoes just cuz I like them. I was a little nervous about the allspice but it really added a nice flavor. My husband liked it and my 2 yr old ate it, however my 4 yr old refused to even come to the table to try it.

We used this over fresh tuna steaks, it was great! We'll definitely use this one again.

Saucy Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2005
Very disappointing. I read the reviews and tried to alter it but it still didn't help. The taste was bland even after adding garlic and italian seasonings. And, the instructions could be better. It took me awhile to figure that this is done on the stovetop and it doesn't specify whether to use "minute rice" or regular rice. I used jasmine rice figuring that cooking for 3 hours would cook it - wrong. After 2 hours the rice on the top was still crunchy so I had to tip them over to try to get them in the sauce enough to cook the rice, even though I was basting them every 15-20 minutes. And, I didn't know if I should cook them covered or not. I left the lid on thinking that would help the rice, nope. Oddly, the rice that was deep in the pepper got horribly mushy.

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2003
Easy to follow, and simple to make. Make sure you let the temperature get to 300 - it took longer than I thought (10-15 min. or so). Also, shaking the cookie sheet afterword side to side helps spread the candy without deflating it.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2003
This was surprisingly easy to make. I am not a "baker" and I had no problems making the crust - there was just not enough of it to have a top & bottom. Next time I will double the crust recipe, better to have too much than too little. The filling was great. I served it to my husband and his parents who all are tough customers to please and they all liked it. Although my mother-in-law said she never had it before with tapioca as a thickener, she usually uses flour so the taste was a little different to her. I thought it tasted great and will definitely make it again! Thanks Deb!

Soy Garlic Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2001
Good stuff. I only marinated for 3 hours and the flavor was good. I think I will marinate longer next time for more flavor.

Goulash

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2001
This is a very satisfying meal. I scaled it down for 4 ppl and it still made a ton. I altered the recipe a little: no mushrooms or peas, I cooked the garlic with the meat and didn't have any parsley so I added a little oregano instead.

Butter Cream Frosting II

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2003
It was easy to make and tastes pretty good. I used butter instead of margarine & butter flavored shortening because it is what I had on hand. It seemed gritty at first but I let it mix for a few more minutes and that seemed to help. I couldn't imagine doing it without a stand-alone mixer. I think I should have chilled it for a few before trying to do the decorating, but it worked pretty good.

Deep Chocolate Raspberry Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2002
It ended up tasting ok, but a little dense. However, I almost burnt up my electric hand mixer trying to mix. I wouldn't attempt again w/o a stand up mixer. And, the instructions are a little lacking for those of us who are new to baking. I had a hard time with the egg whites.

Barbequed Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: May 7, 2011
Pretty good marinade, I did tweek it a little. I used chinese cooking wine rather than vinegar and added about a teaspoon of chili garlic paste. Didn't make it too hot (i was a little worried!), kids didn't even know it was there but I could taste the flavor not the heat. Also, I only marinated for about 6 hrs, that was plenty.

Vermouth Tarragon Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2007
I won't be making this again. I used thin sliced chicken breasts and grilled them. In the amount of time they took to cook, the alcohol did not cook out. Oddly enough, my 2 year ate it without complaint but me, my husband and my 5 year old didn't like it.

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2003
This is a pretty tasty recipe. It seemed a little complicated but I think I tried to do too much at one time. Next time I should have all my prep work done before hand. The sauce is really good, I used the juice of one fresh orange instead of the concentrate, it gave it a very fresh flavor. We could have used more sauce though. Also, I'm not sure I liked the taste of the cornstarch on the beef but maybe there was too much on it or something. Will try this one again, maybe we'll add some chile paste next time for a little heat and will try with less sugar.

Quick Turkey Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
This was a pretty good meal. I changed a few things though: I added salt, not sugar to the onions. Then, I didn't have corn flakes so I used crushed Town House crackers. Also, I didn't have any cream cheese so I used 4 little "Laughing Cow" garlic & herb light cheese spread. Lastly, I put this in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes. The kids didn't care for it though but they aren't casserole eaters to begin with.

Omelet in a Mug

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
Good and fast! I used only 1 egg and 1 minute was almost too much. I also made this into a sandwich so I only added salt & pepper to the egg before cooking it. When it was done I put a slice of american cheese on top, let it sit for a minute to melt, then put it on a toasted english muffin with a piece of honey ham. Wow! Better than the ones we used to slave over! My husband added herbs, onions and shredded cheese to his but wasn't too happy with it, he said it tasted funny, could have been the herbs though.

G's Flank Steak Marinade

Reviewed: May 31, 2007
Delicious! Everyone loved this one, even my 3 yr old had seconds. My only change was adding about 1 teaspoon dried rosemary and I left it in the fridge for 2 days, wow. For a 1.5 lb flank steak I grilled for 5 min each side for a nice medium rare. The edge pieces were done a little more for the kids.
