I have started making this recipe with a fever ever since I found it and perfected my version of it. Quite literally almost every day I'm making another batch, because my boyfriend, myself, and all my family and friends are always requesting it. I varied a little from the recipe. How I make it is, I use an 8x8 pan and I normally use about 3-5 apples, depending on how large they are. Granny smith taste the best with this, but i normally use regular red del. I peel and core them, and I pour 1/3 C. water over them in the pan. after that, I sprinkle cinnimon over them until they are coated, and i add a light sprinkling of nutmeg, just enough for taste. then I mix the topping together. I use- 1/2 C. butter, 1/2 C. white sugar, 1/2 C. brown sugar, and mix that. Then I add cinnimon liberally to that, until it's covered, and about 3 Tb. of vanilla. I mix that in. Then I add 3/4 C. of flour. I spread the topping over the apples, usually by hand to make sure it's even, and then I sprinkle brown sugar liberally over the top for a nice crunchy crust. I bake it at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. it always comes out perfectly.
