About this Cook
When I was young, I read the book "My Side of the Mountain" which is about a boy who runs away to live in the mountains of NY. Also, "Dove" which is about a boy who sails around the world alone (well, almost alone) also having great adventures and basically living as he pleased. Well, as an adult I no longer require parental permission and can do these things on the weekends. My (ex-)husband and I hike extensively into the wilderness and now I get to drink from puddles and rocks in the wild like I used to dream about as a kid. I don't eat bugs, though. I draw the line at filtering water. Nor seafood, although I love to both inland and deep sea fish; strictly for the adventure. Someday I'll learn what it is I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I will enjoy living every day to its fullest. Finally.
My favorite things to cook
Not sure yet. Wish I could master roast meat like the pros.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cranberry-Marshmallow Fluff at Thanksgiving... unfortunately, I must be the only one who clings to this particular tradition anymore! Too sweet.
My cooking triumphs
I have so many... just kidding.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken Brie Grilled Sandwiches.. let's not even talk about it.

Wisconsin Bratwurst
A great-tasting, classic Wisconsin recipe. It seems the secrets here are the butter and mild heat. I usually see the best-tasting brats floating in a pan of gently simmering (not boiling) beer, sliced onion, and butter right on a hot grate for a half hour to an hour before grilling. BTW, grilling is only for lightly carmelizing the skins - and for locking in the juice from simmering - not additional cooking. Do not overdo either! Skins should literally burst when bitten through. And, yes... serve on hoagie or hard rolls, or something substantial. Add a sliced apple and a few caraway seeds to warming sauerkraut for a more mild, sweet flavor.
