this is the best chocolate cake ever. however, every time i have made it, the edges have started to harden by the time the middle has set, and i have to cut off the lower outer rim/corner of each cake round. i've experimented with tweaking the temperature/cook time to avoid this but have not been successful. but this has not stopped me from making this cake many times!! most recently, i cut the cake rounds in half horizontally then layered with "Chocolate Torte" frosting (from the site) and sliced strawberries to make a monstrously rich, amazing 4 layered behemoth of a cake that was SO good even my boyfriend's friends (who hate me with a passion) couldn't help but compliment it :)
