This recipe is ok. It is simple to make, but the ingredients are all wrong. Any recipe that uses "all purpose flour" makes me think the author doesn't know much about baking.
An Shortening? Hello! That is hydrogenated vegetable oil, also known as trans-fat and isnt' exactly good for you.
Technically, this recipe only deserves one star, and there is no way it should qualify as top 20 anything. But the proportions are right, and it did help me out when I wanted to make corn bread.
With a little attention to wholesome ingredients and nutrition, you could be a great cook Carol! Keep trying, I'm sure you'll get there...
To fix this recipe use: Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, Dark Brown Sugar, Butter Milk, and Butter.
