Getting read for Boomer theatre I met Joan for lunch at Denali’s in Beloit because I knew she was directing a play at the local theatre. I had many questions, among them why she spells her name with lower case letters. “Let me say, there’s no money in theatre,” she began.   “You cannot make a… MORE

LIFE IS GOOD! On the river, there is an ever changing view, each day, each week, each month, each season, and really each hour. It's like God has given us a dynamic art gallery, right in our backyard. Often in the early morning the sepia tones give the river an artistic quality that almost… MORE

I have to admit it. I am an AmazonLLC addict. And, I am not apologizing! I remember reading a New York Times story a few years ago about a woman in New York City who was a GrouponTM addict. She bought so many Groupons that she ran out of time to use them all before their expiration dates.… MORE

Are you ready? It seems, lately, if you listen to radio, that everyone from Homeland Security to FEMA to various other agencies, is using their PSAs (Public Service Announcements) to warn the public about impending disasters.   So do they know something we don’t know? I thought our President… MORE

OK, warning: this is a rant about food assassins!    My ranting could be because, beautiful as it is on the river, it is brrr-cold and windy and even the river seems to bubble its complaints. You can see its ripples and almost a tide stretching out from the bank to its middle. The ducks… MORE

When we first found the little foreclosure house, which we now call the River House, I returned that evening to our apartment and couldn’t get the little house out of my mind.   I didn’t sleep much that night. I kept imagining that back deck overlooking the river, and could see myself holding… MORE

It’s amazing how huge changes in our behavior sneak up in small steps. When I look at even the vocabulary I use today, I realize that even as recent as a couple of decades ago words like mouse, desktop, icons, footprint, kindle, application, tablet, and so many more, meant something… MORE

You all know I am into green smoothies, organics, antioxidants and the like. But when I began reading about how to do the  pH thing, I was overwhelmed. Learning all about the balance of alkaline and acid for the body  seemed foreign to think about.     I dabbled with the idea, but really had… MORE

About Me
As a freelancer, I write about food, travel, entertainment and health. Publishing began as business/health writer for Orange County Business Journal, drama critic for Orange County Register, LA Times, and Irvine World News, and food critic for Orange County Register's 13 city papers. I follow hubby around the country, so next destination in IL/WI was freelancing for Stateline Business and Rock River Times (my Lunch with Marjorie column is still online there). Now in CT, I write about life in New England, travel, continue Lunch with Marjorie, and have other ventures happening. I have consolidated all my writings at www.readmstradinger.com. My favorite things to cook
breakfast scones, Grand Marnier soufflé, zucchini pancakes, spiralized anything, but especially carrot Thai salad, a myriad of stuffed peppers, frittatas, and lately Grouper.
My favorite family cooking traditions
sharing meals with family and friends, small group fellowships with a meal, (kitchen) island cooking. I suppose I would also enjoy that other kind of "island" cooking.
My cooking triumphs
grand marnier souffle, which my husband and I make together.
My cooking tragedies
kidney lasagne...hey, we were trying to save $$. lol
