Haselnussmakronen

Regarding whipping the egg whites, the reason to avoid plastic bowls is that they tend to absorb grease/fat, which really interferes with the whipping process. Just sayin'. (Glass, stainless steel, or preferably copper are better choices.) I really enjoyed these cookies. They are delicate in both taste and texture, made unique by the ground hazelnuts, with a hint of lemon. Great recipe, and easy as long as you have blanched (skinned) and toasted hazelnuts on hand. If not, toast shelled hazelnuts in a 350F oven for 10-15 minutes, transfer to a bowl and cover with a towel, let steam one minute, then rub off the skins. (That's the method I used.)

Plum Clafouti

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
The most time-consuming part of this is pitting the plums. Besides that, this is delicious. I used 1/3 cup spelt flour (whole grain) and 3 tbsp. total sugar. The tart plums are delicious!

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
The best baked ziti recipe - at first I thought the amount of sour cream made it too tangy, but it must have been that particular piece. We had to line up the ziti pieces in rows, instead of a jumble, so that it would all fit in the baking dish!

An amazing use for quinoa. I made exactly as the recipe stated, chopping everything very finely.

A very interesting change from the typical lemonade. Even my family (who don't typically welcome 'different' recipes) enjoyed this!

Mimi's Giant Whole-Wheat Banana-Strawberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
Following other people's suggestions, I used 2 bananas + 1/2 cup oats, and yogurt and applesauce. I reduced the cinnamon to 2 tsp. and added 1/4 tsp. nutmeg. I partially mashed really really cold strawberries (they did not have time to freeze).

Honey Pie from Sifnos

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This was my first time making a pie and pie crust, but it turned out well. It was fine with clover honey; I didn't have any thyme honey. The filling never got thick when I was mixing it, but the pie baked well, and my family loved it.
