Sauteed Mushrooms in Garlic

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2009
A very simple recipe to mix up plain fried mushrooms. I used fresh basil instead. It turned out to be a very tasty sidedish that recieved more attention than the main. I'll try it again. Maybe white wine next time.

Slow Cooker Lemon Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
I doubled the lemon pepper for stronger flavour, added 1/2 cup water and used boneless skinless chicken breasts. Served with rice and asparagus. The family loved it. Simple and delicious.

Cinnamon Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2010
Wow! I would give this six stars if possible. The cinnamon gave this dish a very unique flavour, yet it was more subtle than you might think. My dinner guests couldn't quite recognize what that ingredient was. I also happened to marinade three tenderloins, but only cooked two that evening. The third one stayed in the marinade an extra 2 days before I grilled it, and what incredible flavour it had. I plan to do this one again, and use it regularly. Excellent recipe.

Teriyaki Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Excellent dish. I reduced the amount of vegetable oil, and added some sesame oil, as recommended by some of the other reviews. I used fresh garlic instead of powder. Also, I prepared the salmon in the marinade the night before. This dish was the star at dinner last night. I'm already planning to make it again soon.

Sweet Potato Potato Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
Very good dish. I took the advice of some other reviews and added red pepper and apple and substituted in green onions. I also added curry powder to the mayonaise dressing. Variations are endless. Good one.

Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Fabulous recipe. I have tried variations of this recipe with scotch bonnet, jalapeno and thai chili peppers. Every time I get a jar of dynamite paste. One change I make is to reduce the sugar, as 2 tbsp is a bit too sweet for me. A word of advice, though. Don't prepare this on your kitchen stove if you have people around who don't share your enthusiasm for this recipe. The aroma can be overwhelming. Thanks for sharing this one.

Buttermilk Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I tried the basic recipe, and it was not bad, but a little light on flavour. I might try this again with one of the variation suggestions. Paprika, cayenne, curry or garlic would definitely give this a flavour boost. It's now several months later, and I should mention that this recipe is in my regular rotation. I now use a teaspoon of curry powder in the Carnation Milk mix, and another teaspoon and a half of curry powder in the flour mix. You might vary the amount depending on how subtle you want your flavour. Each time, the chicken is moist and flavourful and the texture is crispy. Always a crowd-pleaser.

Kosher Chicken Soup with Matzo Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2013
Awesome, flavourful recipe. Matzo balls are amazing, and the broth turned out well too, although I left out the dill. Definitely in the regular rotation.

Cranberry and Almond Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
I tried this with diced chicken instead of ham and added diced green apple. I cut the mayo in half and substituted light sour cream. The crunchiness of the almonds and celery was nice, but this dish still lacked flavour. The taste of the cider vinegar was not pleasant. Not a bad recipe, but needs some variation. Needs flavour.

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
Excellent wings recipe. Perfect balance between sweet and spicy. You can vary the ingredients depending on how hot you like your wings. I removed the wings from the oven after 30 minutes and finished by grilling them on medium-low heat for ten minutes to crisp. Nice recipe. I'll definitely use this one again.

Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I had some leftover ham, and was searching for a split pea soup recipe. This was a winner. Simple and delicious. The family loved it, and I will certainly make it again. The only thing I changed was that I left out the milk. It was pretty thick, so I might add more water next time. Great recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome dish. I prepared this exactly as the recipe instructions called for, and was very pleased. Even better the next day after the flavours have blended. I'll do this one again.

Easiest Spicy Cod

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
I had taken cod out of the freezer and needed to cook it. I found this recipe and decided it was simple enough. It turned out to be a very pleasant surpise. Instead of parsley, I used fresh cilantro. So easy, and so tasty. It took 2 minutes to prep. I'll use it again.

Cilantro Tomato Corn Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2012
Five stars because it was so flavourful and so simple. It took 10 minutes to get this together, although I cheated and used canned corn. No worries as long as it has enough time in the fridge to chill and allow the flavours to blend. Nice side dish recipe. Very simple.

Chicken Matzo Ball Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Excellent recipe. I tried making matzo ball soup for the first time, and impressed the family with this one. I used homemade chicken broth, which I think makes this more authentic. Your Bubie would be proud, hillrockra. lol. Thanks for sharing. I'll make it again soon.

Asian Glazed Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Nice flavours. Not quite a five-star, but four-and-a-half for sure. Simple dish that the family loved. I added grated ginger and reduced the chili garlic to 1 tbsp, so the kids would enjoy. Thanks for sharing. I'll make it again

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2011
Excellent combination of flavours. The meat shredded nicely and absorbed the liquid. The leftovers were even better the next day after the ingredients had more time to blend. I will certainly make this again, but will be more dilligent in trimming the fat off the pork before cooking next time. There was a thick layer of fat on top when I took the leftovers out of the fridge.
