Ham and Hash Brown Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2013
I had an idea for dinner but couldn't find what I wanted so I used this recipe as a template and it was exactly what I was looking for. My version used ham and a mix of sauteed leeks, broccoli and mushrooms. I also added an extra egg & a little extra milk, giving it 35 mins at 350. I may have been overly generous with the melted butter on the crust because only the edges browned and the rest of it was 'foamy' so next time I'll try using a pastry brush and give it a light brush. We will definitely make this again, thank you, Candace!

Autumn Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I think I've rated this recipe before but it deserves another thumb's up. I was skeptical of apple + cheesecake but I'm sure glad I gave it a shot. I always follow a recipe closely for the first time and then do my own thing after that and it was great the first time. Now, I use an extra brick of cream cheese, extra egg, 1/4 cup extra of sugar to make a larger cake. I slice my apples thin, chop them up and sprinkle onto the top rather than arrange the slices because I wanted them to cook and not just dry out. Brown sugar instead of white mixed in with the apples. Instead of a graham crust I just pat down a layer of ground almonds and pour the batter directly on top. This makes it gluten-free. When fall rolls around, this is the cheesecake that I turn to. Very seasonal and would be great for Thanksgiving.

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
For only using 2 bricks of cream cheese, this rose up more than I expected, which was great. I've never done the sour cream layer before so after reading reviews I added a touch more sugar. Yum yum, can't wait to have it after Christmas dinner!

Pecan Tarts

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
These made the kitchen smell absolutely fantastic while they were baking! I had frozen store bought tart shells and I wanted to use those up but I sure plan to try the dough recipe next time.

Chocolate Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
Excellent!!! I rolled each half into a log and joined them together as suggested. I wrapped it in plastic, put it in the fridge and sliced to bake. Very pretty, very tasty and I'll definitely make them again.

Chocolate-Cran-Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Great cookie, full of flavour and character. Mine didn't spread out too much and stayed in the shape that I dropped them onto the sheet in so they looked a bit odd. Other than that, very good.

Eggnog Thumbprints

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Good cookie! Not a visual stand-out, but it'll be great served with a variety of other cookies. I wanted something that wasn't chocolate and these worked out great. You could easily drop a few chocolate chips in the thumbprint after they come out of the oven, then give them a swirl when they melt if you didn't want to use the icing. I have icing left over and I plan to use it on french toast...yum!

Easiest Focaccia Recipe

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2010
Easy recipe! I was a little unsure about how much water to add but just kept on going until the dough came together. I've never made anything with yeast before and this was pretty fascinating to see it bloom. Last night I put italian herbs and chopped olives in the dough and tonight I'm using the herbs again, and sprinkling it with parmesan and rosemary.

Chili-Lime Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2009
Very good! I flattened out some chicken breasts and marinated them overnight. I didn't have a fresh lime so I had to estimate how much lime juice to add...it turned out moist and tangy.
