About this Cook
http://rachel-fortheloveoffood.blogspot.com/ I am a graduate student always on the look out for ways to relieve stress! Cooking and baking happen to be at the top of the list! I really enjoy cooking, especially my mom and grandmother's recipes. I am also always on the look out for new recipes to try!
My favorite things to cook
Baked goods are my favorite! I tend to give a lot of goodies away though - they won't be around for long if I keep them in the house!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Prepping for big meals like Thanksgiving - cooking recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2009 was my first time away from my family, so I chose to do all of the cooking. I incorporated my grandmother's recipes as well as a couple of new recipes. It turned out to be a success!
My cooking tragedies
I was making angel food cake one day, getting ready for my parents to come over for dinner. When I went to go put the pan in the oven to bake the cake, I opened the oven and heard something scurrying! I quickly closed the oven door, set the cake pan down (so I didn't drop it) and went to go check out what was in the oven. Turns out, a lizard (there are so many here in Florida) had gotten trapped in the oven. I baked a lizard!! I sadly pulled out the lizard with tongs and then continud with my original plans (to put the cake pan in the oven). Well as my cake batter sat (which is not good for angel food cake), I ended up having to remix the batter, moving it from the pan to a mixing bowl and back. Cake batter was EVERYWHERE, but it eventually made it into the oven, clear of lizards!. For the rest of the evening, I wasn't able to live this down - everyone kept joking that I had baked the lizard to garnish the cake. Needless to say, the cake turned out great.

Peanut Butter Brownies I
I took advice from one of the ratings and these brownies were amazing! I used crunchy peanut butter, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1/3 flour, ΒΌ tsp baking powder, and a half and half of peanut butter chips and chocolate chips. Yum!

Pumpkin Dessert
Wow this was amazing! I did not expect this dessert to be as great after reading a couple of reviews that had said this was better the day after. This was delicious though! The only thing I changed about this recipe was the topping. Rather than the white sugar I used raw sugar cane crystals. I used about 3/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup. I added the raw sugar, remaining cake mix, butter, and chopped nuts to the food processor. This happened to crush down the walnuts even more, but the topping was wonderful! I also recommend this recipe for those who do not like traditional pie crusts too, like me! The bottom cake crust was a great idea! And the pumpkin filling was perfect! This deserves more than 5 stars!
