About this Cook
Eastern Illinois farm boy who's been transplanted to Iowa. Oldest of six, I learned to cook in self defense as Mom worked nights and Dad would cook if she was asleep or at work. Love to cook, and do a lot of the cooking at home.
My favorite things to cook
Chinese/Asian, especially stir fry. BBQ/Smoker beef/pork/chicken. Italian, especially pasta dishes, pasta putanesca(has too many things my wife doesn't like in it though), Sausage and Peppers - Yum! Southwest/Tex-Mex. CHILI!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Be adventuresome! Grew up in a midwest farm family, who were always willing to try something new.
My cooking triumphs
Chinese New Year feast for family last year. Have made a lot of progress in Asian cooking, hope to learn a lot more.
My cooking tragedies
No big tragedies, a nimber of small disappointments - sometimes I experiment a little too much!

Egg Noodles
Always hard to go wrong with homemade noodles, and these did not disappoint. So much like the homemade noodles I remember from childhood. Now I have no excused for not making them more often.

Brandi's Won Tons
Very good! Much easier to fold wontons than I expected, found a video on YouTube to see how. Followed the recipe pretty closely. Fried some, and boiled some, liked them both ways. Will definitely make this again! Was not that taken with the recommended dipping sauce, tried a variety of sauces, hoisin sauce or plum sauce was excellent with these.
