My favorite family cooking traditions
My big beautiful Cuban American family doesn't share a moment together that doesn't involve food... I would have to say that my favorite family tradition is that we all get together once a month to celebrate birthdays and have a potluck at one of our homes....its the best tradition we have, and we get to enjoy it 12 times a year!
My cooking triumphs
My first ever glazed ham in 2006 for thanksgiving (I grew up VERY vegetarian!)
My cooking tragedies
I once made a german chocolate cake 5 TIMES in a row because it wouldn't come out just right....i crossed out the word "cake" on the recipe and replaced it with an expletive, but the 5th one was a charm, so I guess that could be classified as a tragedy that turned INTO a triumph! That triumph lead to a successful little cake business on the side... :D

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! This was my very first attempt at pot roast and I am VERY pleased with the outcome! Thank you Brenda for submitting! I used a smaller roast (about alb) as it is just my husband and I. I was not at all worried about any "extra gravy" as I had seen in some other reviews. I WELCOME extra gravy! LOL Also, I did add 2 medium yellow onions in quarters beneath the roast while cooking, and about halfway through cook time I added some baby carrots and small red potatoes that I halved. I had a box of emeril's vegetable broth already opened in the fridge, so I used that in place of the water. Oh, by the way, did I mention this turned out AWESOME! I plan on making this a regular dish in our family! :)

Garlic Potatoes Gratin
This was a good base recipe which I changed only slightly. Instead of heavy cream I used a can of evaporated milk (which tasted creamy and delicious by the way) and as far as the cheese, I used 1/2 smoked gouda and 1/2 fontina. The end result was delicious, but I have a couple of suggestions that I think I will try if I make this recipe again. 1. I would increase the amount of garlic. I used the 5 cloves according to the directions but was expecting a more noticeable garlic flavor. 2. I would sauté the garlic/butter mixture before layering and pour 1/2 in the middle and half on the top to more evenly distribute these flavors. 2. I used 6 oz. of cheese but felt that mine could have used a little more. maybe just a personal preference. Overall, a nice recipe I would use again with the changes I just mentioned.
