Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2011
AMAZING! After taking the advice of many previous reviewers and: 1) increasing the sauce; 2) cooking meat and vegies in chicken broth, and; 3) adding additional seasonings to the sauce (mine were poultry seasoning, garlic powder, and about 1/8 tsp of allspice) this pot pie even won over even the teen who claimed to "...hate pot pie". Thank you, THANK YOU for a winning recipe, Robbie!!

Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This was not only easy, but DELICIOUS! I used the leanest ground beef I could find, which let me cut out the draining step. Also let me sauté the garlic and onions in the first step! I used one can of Italian-style tomatoes and one can with onions and peppers. All in all a great go to after a busy day. This one is a keeper!

Dad's Pan-Fried Green Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
WONDERFULLY tasty AND easy! Perhaps the best thing about this dish is its ability to be changed up a bit. I sauteed some chicken to add to the mix. Also added some ginger and a few dashes of Chinese five spice powder...really perked the dish up! Thanks for a delicious addition to our rotation!

No Bake Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Good recipe! However, I found I needed TWO packs of cream cheese to fill a store-bought Graham cracker crust. Still and all, this is a tasty recipe.... Resident teenager had 3 1/2 slices!

Buffalo Wontons

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
If a way to a man's heart is through his stomach -- these will SURELY win your man over! I made these for our weekend "cards crew" and ALL the guys raved. In fact, they're STILL talking about them! The only change I made -- based on an earlier suggestion -- was to mix crumbled Danish blue cheese into the softened cream cheese (Neufchatel). On request, I served with chilled ranch dressing for dipping. Definitely a new house favorite! Thank you, Cookin' Fool!!

Bacon-Balsamic Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This was my very first attempt at making deviled eggs -- a childhood favorite of both mine and my boyfriend's. These were delicious! Not quite what I was expecting (neither the bacon nor the balsamic prevailed), but very good! Perhaps my tastes were "off" that day, but will definitely try these again!

Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Blue Cheese-Chive Butter

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
I'm giving this recipe 5 starts for the butter alone! The meat was wonderful, too, but the butter put this dish over the top!!! Thanks for a heavenly new addition to our red meat repertoire :)

Apple Cole Slaw

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This was delicious! The apples make for an especially refreshing slaw! The sugar was a bit much for me, so would likely decrease to 1/4 cup next time. All in all, VERY good....got rave reviews....and I'll definitely make this again! I had an Aunt Mamie, too :)

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC!! Absolutely delicious sauce paired with the Slow Cooker Pulled Pork (w/root beer) from this site! Made a 5 lb. pork shoulder, shredded it and added the sauce, cooking in the crock for an add'l 1.5 hours. Received RAVES all around!! Only "sub" I did was cider vinegar instead of red wine vinegar (it's what I had on hand). Thank you for helping to make my first homemade bbq sauce attempt a HUGE success, Al!!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
I made this recipe (along with Big Al's BBQ Sauce from this site) and it was wonderful! Received raves from ALL -- and one 5 lb. pork shoulder later, the crock pot was empty! Only changes I made were to add more root beer and 3 large garlic cloves. Cooked for 6 hours, shredded, added sauce and cooked add'l 1.5 hours. Thanks for a delicious recipe.

Juicy Lucy Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
My mom and grandparent's used to take us to Matt's for Juicy Lucys....they're STILL a hands-down favorite!! You MUST use American cheese to get anything close. Although living in Alaska now, I'm going to try them with caribou meat. Can hardly wait to make 'em. Thanks for the reminder of a childhood fave!

Stroganoff Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2010
I submitted this recipe, and just noticed that I forgot to include the 'milk' quotient in the recipe. 2 cups of milk should be included once items are tranferred from skillet to stock pot. :)

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
i love red potatoes and this was a very good recipe! Think I may need to tweak it a bit more, though, given I scaled it from 100 servings down to 8. I used nearly an entire bulb of roasted garlic, and think I could've used more. After all, can you ever REALLY use too much garlic? ;) Thank you for the recipe!

Best Ever Meatloaf with Brown Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
I, also, am only rating the gravy because b'friend is very proud of his own meatloaf :) In any case -- FANTASTIC brown gravy!!! Holy cow -- who knew brown gravy without drippings could be so tasty and easy?? This is one of those recipes that will go to the front of my recipe book. Hopefully one day, I'll get a chance to make the meatloaf in the recipe, too! ;)

Sinfully Delicious Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
This pie was WONDERFUL! Made it for b'friend's dad's birthday. It set beautifully, and only had a small amount of filling left after using a store-bought Oreo cookie crust. Everyone loved it. In fact it was so incredibly rich that I haven't been able to touch the leftovers! Good thing I have another chocolate pie-lover in the house who's more than grateful for what's left :) Thanks for a terrific -- and EASY -- recipe!

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
Followed this recipe to a "T" (ok, MAYBE added a dash more cocoa) and the brownies were fantastic!! I actually just bought more zucchini to keep on hand to make more in the future! Like other reviewers mentioned, a bit more like a rich devil's food cake -- but incredible nonetheless. My neighbors, co-workers and friends inhaled them, and couldn't guess the "secret ingredient". This one's a keeper for sure!

Salmon Fillets with Creamy Dill

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Two small adjustments and this recipe recieved RAVE reviews by all!!! Based on other reviews, I used 1/2 c. mayo and 1/2 c. light organic sour cream. Also only had stone ground mustard and used 2-3 TBSP. The herbs are what REALLY made the salmon (fresh Alaskan red, by the way!) really shine! Served with a cucumber/sour cream salad and fresh Minnesota sweet corn -- this meal was to die for!! Thanks for yet another tasty way to enjoy our native salmon!

No Bake Cookies V

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Just made these tonite for me and my boyfriend (serious sweet teeth!). They're fantastic! So easy...I have to agree with the reviewer who suggested to have the vanilla, salt, and peanut butter pre-measured. These are so chocolate-y and peanut butter-y....just what we needed to satisfy our late night dessert cravings. Thanks, bybet2 :) This will be a permanent addition to my cookie repertoire!
