Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: May 19, 2014
This really is the best bread! I followed the directions, using Active Dry yeast mixed with the warm water and sugar in the pan prior to adding the remaining ingredients. Instead of vegetable oil, I used olive oil because it is what I had on hand. Even my 9-year old, who hasn't been a fan of my homemade bread, told me it tasted like store bought. Thank you so much for this recipe! I'm already making a second loaf!

Old Charleston Style Shrimp and Grits

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2014
This is an excellent dish my whole family loves. We used the medium sized shrimp (still 2lbs). We keep the grits separate from the sausage/shrimp mix until ready to serve. Also excellent reheated as leftovers.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2014
I reduced the chili pepper and red pepper flakes because my kids found it a bit spicy, but I loved it and much prefer it over the store bought kind with artificial ingredients

Excellent! Very rich with nice peanut butter taste. I used natural peanut butter. Husband loved it for his birthday surprise.

Baked Kale Chips

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2014
Nope, not a fan of Kale. I know its very popular right now, and if I liked Kale, this would probably be very tasty, with the seasoning giving it a nice touch and the crispy kale having a good texture. I gave it 4 stars simply because I think others will enjoy. I just don't like kale.

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2010
Very good! I followed the directions, but used one reader's suggestions of adding 1/8 C cornstartch mixed with 1/8 C half-and-half to the second boiling in step 2. This resulted in a nice custard style filling. Make sure you stir the flour and cornstarch well so you don't have too many lumps. For my first pie, I only added bananas to the bottom of the pie crust and then to the top when it was finished (I didn't bake it). For my second pie, I mixed sliced bananas in the pudding when it was cool. Either way is good, depending on how much banana you like!

Playgroup Granola Bars

Very good base. I added chocolate chips and coconut flakes, and I also substituted half the honey for applesauce and they were a nice moist consistency. My kids love them!

Earth Worm Delights

This was a hit at our Halloween party, but I prefer regular Rice Krispie treats over the chocolate flavor.

Penne a la Vodka II

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2014
I gave this 3 stars because it is a good base recipe, but we found it bland. We like a meat sauce, so I browned 1 lb of ground Italian sausage. Then I mixed in 2, 14oz cans of crushed tomatoes. Then I followed the directions as is. I added some Parmesan cheese to the cream sauce too.
