Married to a wonderful man who loves to eat as much as I love to cook. We have 2 Giant Schnauzers and 1 Mini Schnauzer, 1 mutt, 5 cats, 1 snake. I've worked for my local paid Fire/Rescue Dept for 21 years as a 911 calltaker-dispatcher then I retired. I'm starting a new job as claims rep with the Social Security Administration. I have a built in taste tester since my mom lives with us also. The 3 of us love to travel (Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, Mexico, California, Alaska, Bahamas, etc.) and our favorite place to travel is Walt Disney World. We go 4-5 times a year!
My favorite things to cook
Southern Comfort foods. It's what we grew up on and what we love to eat (not very good for our waistlines though). We love Chicken & Dumplings, pastas w/ cream sauces, shrimp & crablegs w/ butters, deviled eggs, potato salads... you get the picture. I took a class to learn to make sushi. I love it but I haven't gotten brave enough to make it outside the class.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother taught me to cook (wouldn't teach my mom & my mom didn't teach me). I still remember standing on a stool making grilled cheese sandwiches using a small cast iron skillet & tiny spatula with my Granny... and her angel biscuits... wow! I'd love to have her recipe now but she was a cook who didn't measure & I've never been able to exactly duplicate them.
My cooking triumphs
I baked and decorated my own wedding cake (against my mother's wishes) and my sister-in-law's wedding cake and the 40th anniversary wedding cake at my in-laws' celebration. The guests raved over them.
My cooking tragedies
The worst was a recipe from Paula Deen off her foodnetwork show. She swore this would be the ONLY & BEST chicken casserole recipe any new bride would need. Good thing I wasn't a new bride, I think my husband may have left me over it. I followed the recipe exactly but the curry flavor was the worst taste we'd ever put in our mouth and I threw the bottle of curry into the garbage after we got home from the restaurant we ended up at for dinner.
