Pudgy old lady in second year nursing school. Cook when kitchen is clean enough to maneuver. Like to just throw things together for the most part. Prefer truly excellent fresh ingredients. Husband and I grow some of our own.
My favorite things to cook
Omelettes
Pecan puffs
Bread
Comfort food: chili, split pea soup w/ ham, spaghetti.
My favorite family cooking traditions
See above.
Christmas: oyster stew, pecan puffs, sand tarts, almond roca.
Year round down home at Seaside: Fried razor clams, baked stuffed salmon w/ chrysanthemum in the stuffing, hotted up fresh oysters on the barbie, fresh frozen raspberry jam/cooked blackberry jam on bread hot out of the oven w/ real butter.
My cooking triumphs
What a joke. If something isn't burned or over/under salted I figure I'm golden.
My cooking tragedies
All the burnt stuff. I get bored and wander away too readily. I'm truly not a good cook, just enthusiastic when in a good mood. Oh yeah, there was the time I had friends over to dinner right after moving into a new apartment. Went to check roast, and it was raw. Landlord in big big trouble.
