Terrific Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
Wow, if you didn't include the chopped green chiles and the zucchini, then you did not make this recipe, you made some other recipe. Those two ingredients seem pretty integral to this dish, considering the thousands of chili recipes that exist, all pretty much the same as the next. ...Anyway, I made this Terrific Turkey Chili and it was delicious and a really nice change! The zucchini is a great addition.

Butternut Squash and Turnip Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
Delicious! Perfect for solstice soup this year. I was out of butter, only used olive oil, and it was just fine. Also added about 1/4 cup heavy cream. I especially like the coriander.

Goldenrod Egg

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
Hey Editors, what's up with this bogus change to Dana's recipe? The sauce should be white. Cook it for 10 minutes and it will get *darker*, and it will be ruined. It will not 'lighten'. Anyway, my mother-in-law introduced this dish to me and I love it. She also calls it Eggs a al Goldenrod. Dana's recipe, done the way she wrote it, is just right.

Bacon Jack Chicken Sandwich

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
Was searching for something new to do with boneless, skinless chicken breasts. This was great. Grilled outside it didn't heat up the kitchen. Family loved it, said I should make it again.

Zucchini Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2011
Delicious! I fried them on the electric pancake griddle. Great texture. I actually used 1/4 cup sugar instead of 1/2 cup, was just right.

Mojito Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
Very tasty and refreshing. Made it yesterday for a bbq and people loved it, including my kids. I doubled it, could have tripled it. Note: I muddled the mint leaves with the sugar before I mixed in the lime juice. I would add a tablespoon *more* of the lime juice, as well.

Chocolate Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
This particular recipe was pretty easy to use and very tasty. I added a couple tablespoons of very strong (day old) coffee while cooking. Topped with whipped cream w/almond extract. .....To the reviewer who complained that this was simply chocolate pudding on a pie crust: Yes, that's basically what a chocolate cream pie is. Beautiful simplicity.

Spinach, Ham and Cheese Omelet

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2010
Great directions. I've never had much success with omelets, but this worked well. Very tasty, too. Used cheddar because that's what was on hand. I directed family to let their omelets sit for a minute after I plated each one, to give the cheese time to melt and the spinach time to warm a bit. Will definitely use this recipe again. Edited to add, the recipe says use 2 eggs for 2 whole servings. My impression is that an omelet for one person uses 2 to 3 eggs by itself. I used 3 eggs for my husband's omelet, and 2 eggs each for the rest of us. I didn't measure the ham, cheese or spinach, I simply piled on as much as looked right.

Sauteed Swiss Chard with Parmesan Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
This is an easy, quick recipe. I didn't have white wine so I used 1/4 cup dry sherry and 1/4 cup chicken broth. Good, but I imagine white wine would be better!

Anzac Biscuits I

Why are these so crumbly?? They're very tasty. But unless I squeezed each ball tightly they fell apart and looked more like granola cereal, not cookie dough.

Chocolate Sour Cream Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
These are brownie-cookies, not cookies. I added a splash (probably more than 1 teaspoon) of almond extract, did a *heaping half-cup* of flour in addition to the whole cup. Used the bigger cookie scoop. Rolled them in sliced almonds. Baked 11 minutes, one sheet at a time. The family loved them.

Italian Kale

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
NEEDS 1/2 CUP LIQUID. This is a good way to cook any greens: kale, spinach, chard, collards. Saute the garlic in olive oil, add the greens -with some liquid, like water, veggie or chicken broth, cook it down, add a little salt. Your done. The vinegar is tasty.

Bread Machine Swedish Coffee Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
I've used this recipe two Christmas's in a row now, and it's consistently yummy. Texture is soft but not gooey. This is *cardamom* bread, so it tastes distinctly of cardamom. I didn't find pearl sugar so I used 'Sugar in the Raw', turbinado sugar, which has large crystals. It gave the crust a glittery look and a nice crunch. The bread bakes up a dark mahogany brown, not golden like the picture (maybe it's the sugar). I recommend this recipe.
