About this Cook
Hi there, I am new to this site and loving it so far. I love to cook and that's why I'm here. I was a farm wife, so I learned to cook the old fashioned way. Trying new recipes and learning new methods are my thing. I am a mother of two, step-mother of five and gramma of four and that it the light of my life. Our kitchen is never closed. I'm looking forward to meeting and learning from my fellow chefs out there!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a wonderful recipe for Cranberry Plum Pudding that has been passed down through the generations from my French grandmother. It is so rich that we dare not serve it beyond a holiday.
My cooking triumphs
I love a challenge, so if it seems impossible, bring it on!

Butter Icing for Sugar Cookies
Agree with many of the other reviews about the amount of vanilla...too much and too strong. Next time I will use less, and use clear vanilla, so the colors are more vibrant. It is smart to check the reviews ahead of jumping in...lesson learned.

Lynn's Carrot Cake
This chocolate version was an great change-up for the usual carrot cake recipes. The only thing I changed was the batter's sugar amount-instead of 2c. of sugar, I used 1 1/2 c. of sugar and 2 packets of stevia. It turned out well without being overly sweet. I will defintely serve this again.

Cream of Asparagus Soup I
I've never made an Aparagus soup, so this was a first try. I like to tweek toward the healthier side; so here was my attempt: I also used the advice from others and used 2T. olive oil and 2T. butter instead of "M" to saute' the celery and onions; I used 1 box(4c.) of organic chicken broth instead of the water, bouillon powder and can of chicken broth; exchanged 1T Bragg's Liquid Aminos for the Soy(tastes the same, just better for you). I canned Asparagus last spring, so used this and added it last and late in the process. I know it would probably be very wonderful with fresh, but it's winter in WI; I will try again in spring. I loved this base recipe to tinker with!
