Spicy Beef Vegetable Stew

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
I made this last night for the first time and it's wonderful. Very quick and easy to make. I did take note of other reviewers opinions that said it wasn't very spicy and decided to add two cans of chopped green chilies. It turned out great, with just enough spice to the taste. I'll definitely be making this one again.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: May 9, 2014
I made this exactly as directed in the recipe and it was a big hit at my house. It has wonderful flavour and it's a nice, thick soup that would be great for those cold winter days. I saw someone else in their review say that they add crumbled bacon to it, which would be an even nicer flavour so I may try that next time I make it. This one is definitely going into the "Best Recipes Yet" category at home!

Turkey Carcass Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2013
Great recipe for a left over turkey soup! Very easy to make as directed. I did add twice the barley, as some people suggested and I think it's a good change. The only other change I might make next time is adding some chicken bouillon to the water. I found it had enough taste, but my other half is a guy who really likes stronger flavours and mentioned that he'd like more but otherwise really liked it. It was a hit with the family!

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2013
The absolutely best stew I have ever made...so delicious and flavourful! The stew beef practically melts in your mouth it is so tender! The only addition I made was quadrupling the cornstarch/water mixture. Other than that, FANTASTIC!!

Best Ever Slow Cooker Italian Beef Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2013
I made this on the fly, having a thawed roast and no energy to cook it on a Wednesday night at 9:30. Given my predicament, I was of course missing one ingredient, the package dry Italian salad dressing mix, so I improvised, using Italian Seasoning and Roasted Garlic and Peppers seasoning and it still turned out fabulous! I will try it the directed way the next time as I'll have more time to plan, but what a beautiful roast it made! So, so flavourful, so tender! A definite hit!

Key Lime Pie VII

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2013
This was SOOO easy! The only change I made was instead of 3 cups of sweetened condensed milk, I used 2 - 300 ml cans and it was perfect. I actually had a little too much filling for the crust. Also, you don't typically find key limes in our grocery stores but four regular sized limes gave me the exact amount of juice that I needed. But this recipe is a dream! I'm not an experienced pie maker by any stretch, but you'd never know it by the way this turned out! Highly, highly recommended recipe!!

Roasted Red Pepper Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2012
The taste of the soup was wonderful and very easy to make. My only point when I make it the next time would be to double the liquid ingredients. It really did seem more like a tortellini with sauce over it than a soup and I didn't even use the full amount of tortellini that was suggested in the ingredients. I used about half that much. So, half the tortellini and double the main soup ingredients. Otherwise, a great soup, especially on a cold winter day!

A Jerky Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Good recipe, but I looked at the previous ratings before I made it and decided to go with only half a habanero pepper instead of a whole one. That turned out to be a good idea and even though the meal was enjoyed, I was asked to cut the pepper down to a "half of a half" for the next time I make it. Good recipe, would definitely make it again, but be sure you like spicy food before you put the pepper in and MAKE SURE YOU PROTECT YOUR HANDS WHEN HANDLING THE HABANERO. If you get caught without any gloves you can use, at least put a baggie over each hand so you're not touching it with your bare skin.

Sunshine Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2010
What a great recipe! So quick and easy but so tasteful! I didn't have any corn syrup, so I took the suggestion of other reviewers and substituted the corn syrup for honey, and I think I'll keep it that way. I also used boneless skinless chicken thighs, and to be honest, even with the grease that ended up coming out with that, I couldn't imagine doing with skin-on chicken. BIG hit with the family. This is definitely a recipe that will be asked for again and again! Thanks! :o)

Amazing Crusted Chicken

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
Great recipe, the family loved it! A couple of things as a side note. I found that the mixture made A LOT, and quite honestly I think it would've been too much to throw on top, so I kept my main amount of crumbs in a large bowl, while I poured some into a smaller bowl to coat my chicken so as not to needlessly contaminate all of it. Then after coating all my chicken pieces (I used 14 boneless, skinless chicken thighs), I poured the remainder of the smaller bowl over the chicken in the pan and it was perfect. I also axed the mayonnaise all together and used an egg wash (1 egg, 2 tbl spoons milk) instead and it was still absolutely yummy. Lastly, I cooked the 14 thighs on 375 for 30 minutes and they were done quite nicely. Thanks very much for this great recipe, it is definitely a keeper!! :o)

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
I made this exactly as set out. I notice some people referring to a rating that claimed it had little flavour, I have to disagree with that. My family LOVES this recipe! It's so easy to make, even with the dredging and browning before it goes to the slow cooker. The chops come out so tender, they fall apart while I'm trying to get them out of the slow cooker. This is a family favourite that I we will make for years to come. Hats off to those reviewers that changed it and made it their own, but I really think it's great just the way it is!

Dreamy Nighttime Drink

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2010
This was great! So quick and easy. I doubled the honey, like most reviewers did and I actually increased the vanilla to approximately a half teaspoon. I really couldn't see what two drops would do and I love the vanilla flavour, so I definitely wanted to taste it! It was perfect! The only mistake was having this right before my favourite show....It definitely worked on the sleepy end!

Harvest Pork Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
I had wondered about the apple chunks in this, but made it as posted, and I should have realized that the apples would cook right down to basically liquid, just as if you were making apple sauce. Although I was almost hovering over the slow cooker, thinking, "There's no way this is enough liquid", it ended up certainly being enough liquid, and this was a big hit at home. Great pork stew, although I used fresh squash and swore never to do that again, given that I had never had the unfortunate experience of trying to cut and peel one before. Great, great, stick to your ribs, perfect for a stormy day at home stew! :o)

Spiced Plum Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Everyone was really looking forward to this recipe, including me. Unfortunately we were all disappointed. Most times I check reviews before I make a recipe, this time I didn't get the chance and I'm sorry I didn't. I didn't cook these a second longer than the 8 hours called for in the recipe and the pork chops were so dry, it was unbelievable. The flavours did not turn out as hoped. I would not make this again.

Monterey Spaghetti

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
I found this recipe (made as listed) and none of us cared for it at all. It was slightly bland, greasy and I'm trying not to think of the nightmarish mess it made of my slow cooker pot, and that's even with it not being cooked a minute longer than was listed in the recipe and with greasing the pot. I won't make this again and I think I'd likely be ousted from the house if I did. I'm sure with some of the changes that people are listing, it might be better, but I won't risk it again and I'm truly surprised it got such a good rating.

Alison's Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
Great recipe, really nice soup, but I would definitely cut back on the salt. By the end of the pot, it got to be almost unbearable (and I'm a salt lover!). But that's a small change to make in an otherwise awesome soup. The family LOVED it!
