Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: May 26, 2012
nice, i like that's it's quick and customisable. I used ground up hazelnuts instead of sliced almonds. I also like that it's got lots of oats. I used rolled oats instead of quick cooking. A keeper. Hazelnuts and apricots come to mind, as does white chocolate chips and cranberries. Lots of possibilities. (I just noticed, reading other people's reviews, that I forgot to add the butter to the recipe! oh well, it was nice anyway!!) * * * Made it a second time, used 1 cup almond meal in lieu of sliced almonds, dessicated coconut in lieu of flaked coconut, 2 tbsp rice bran oil in lieu of butter, and added one egg white (just because I had it on hand) and it turned out beautifully! I absolutely love this recipe. I have a healthier one with yoghurt and honey instead of sweetened condensed milk, but I love that this one is so delicious, versatile, and QUICK!!! Thanks again!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
Nice tasting, the family liked it but I didn't think it was a "great" brownie IMO (and I know lots of people disagree with me judging by all the 5star reviews). I have a very similar old recipe which omits salt and baking powder and uses 3/4 cups of flour, I like mine better. Unlike others I won't rate a recipe 5 stars if I modify it. It is however not a bad recipe and very quick to make. Mine didn't turn out cakey at all (I did not beat the eggs), but a little bit too fudgy. If you like your brownies very fudgy, this could be for you. We also didn't frost the recipe.

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Really nice, the best PBCookies recipe I've made so far. Will also try with suggestions but made it as per the recipe, did not overcook, and they were great (and looked really good too!)

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
Very nice, but perhaps I should add more PB and less butter (I used butter as we don't buy margarine - I also use 'no added salt, no added sugar' PB). We all like them. I added Choc Chips to a batch, that was a good idea. REALLY decadent cut in small slices and served (with fruit) with the 'EAGLE BRAND® Chocolate Fondue' from this site.

EAGLE BRAND® Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I made something very similar. Whipped the cream, folded in the Condensed Milk, added a few drops of vanilla, and added crushed Flake chocolate bars in the mix. Sandwiched the mixture on some malt biscuits (didn't freeze it first). I put rows of baking paper between my rows of sandwiches. It made quite a bit! And then put them in the freezer. I'm making some more for New Year's Day (we're in the midst of our Summer here in Australia!) - a friend said she tried it on some chocolate chocolate chip cookies and they got a bit soggy, hence the choice of using Malt cookies!

Decorator Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Yup, we really liked this one, I needed it for a cake so I added a bit more milk (also I was only trying it so I scaled the recipe to 1/4 of the recipe). I'll be making the full recipe this weekend for our daughters's birthday cake (twins). I liked how it is a stiff icing though, no smudges when it needs to be transported to the party venue! Update 10 October 08: When I made the full recipe to ice cupcakes (Fudge Cake recipe on Allrecipes) I didn't alter the recipe at all and it was really good to pipe (though my piping does need more practice!).

Fudge Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
We loved it. Don't know why some people didn't like it, or how come it came out dry for them, not all ovens bake evenly, and mine is a very difficult oven, yet this cake didn't burn, baked perfectly and had a fudge cake texture. I baked in two round pans, which I had buttered and floured, and we're making again this weekend for our birthday party. It was also really nice to come across a recipe for a chocolate cake (with eggs, I tried eggless ones too which were really nice, on this site) not made with actual chocolate, and NOT from a PACKAGED MIX! Thanks a bunch for the recipe!! I might have to try those as cup cakes (adjusting cooking time of course) as I think they'd be FANTASTIC! Update 10 Oct 08: Made them as cupcakes and they turned out amazingly well! Had to adjust cooking time, but they were a HUGE success, piped some Decorator Frosting from this site http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Decorator-Frosting/ and they were easily transported to the party venue, the icing didn't stick to the plastic wrap at all. I'm one happy camper!

Eggless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2008
We really liked it, it's easy to make, no egg so batter is safe for kids to lick! It was moist, and not as crumbly as other cakes, also didn't have that baking soda taste that similar recipes have had. I used the Busy Day Cocoa Icing from this site, and it's a nice quick cake easy to whip up before dinner! I was testing this recipe for Cupcake Cones and it worked really well. What I really liked about it is that it's not overly sweet, so it's great with icing, also that it didn't seem as crumbly as other chocolate cakes.

Dump Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
6, 7, 8 stars? I wish I could give it more! Delicious brownie, easy and so quick to make. I couldn't stand the idea of putting a full cup of oil so I did half canola oil and half apple sauce and it is just FANTASTIC!! (Edited to add that I did make it with the full cup of oil one time and it was very nice that way too! Still a BIG lunchbox hit!)

Chocolate Oatmeal Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Nice cake, quick to make. Fairly crumbly. I can just imagine how nice it would be it with some raspberry jam in the middle! I also think it's important to let the oats soak thoroughly as some of mine ended up at the bottom. Will try it with apple sauce (instead of using oil, or for half the oil) next time, now that I know what it is supposed to be like as per the recipe.

KELLOGG'S* RICE KRISPIES* Chocolate Cereal Bark

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2008
Hmm, they get 5 stars for taste, and it's a simple recipe to make with children (I gather you could melt the chocolate and butter in the microwave to make it even quicker) but ... It's very messy, it melts on your fingers, I was thinking "what a great birthday party treat!" but nope. Not great for a lunchbox snack either, for the same melting reason. Perhaps making them in patty pans, instead of as a slab would make them a bit easier to eat without getting dirty. But no doubt, Rice Krispies (or Rice Bubbles in Australia) and chocolate are a tasty combination!!

Maple Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2008
I was so excited to try this recipe! I only made half the recipe and I'm glad I did, those cookies aren't what I was looking for, I found them dull and tasteless, I did use dark maple syrup, maple essence instead of vanilla. I was going to try the glaze another reviewer posted in their comments, but I'm going to save that recipe for something else. I'm very sorry but I really did not enjoy the cookies at all (though the raw dough wasn't to bad!!!). I only baked half of the half recipe, and not sure what to do about the leftovers. Maybe chocolate chips will spruce them up! I also found the dough hard to roll into balls, but that could be with the fact that it might have needed a wee bit more of this or that (my measuring cups are based on 250 ml and I don't do well with metric conversions in grams) but I did roll the dough (I love doing that anyway whenever I can) and it was easy to cut, the cookies also did keep their shape. So it's not an awful recipe, we simply didn't like it.

Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: May 22, 2008
Made them without raisins as the "under 10's" in this house don't like them, and OH WOW!!! Yummy! Hubby and I had a few while they were still warm!!! That's definitely going to be a repeat recipe! Very very nice! Thanks for the recipe!! (edit: I came looking for a recipe, having forgotten I'd bookmarked and reviewed this one already and the 2nd try was just as great as the first!! I did use choc chips this time instead of raisins, now this recipe is going in my recipe binder for good!)

EAGLE BRAND® Chocolate Fondue

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
Can't say I would give this to my family every day, as it's very rich (the description suggests "for after school snacks"!)... but My oh my! It's YUMMY! A bit too thick, I had to thin it down with milk too, next time I will cook it for less time (I think I was waiting for it to boil, and cooked it for more than 5 minutes... I'm glad it never boiled as the other recipe I tried, I burnt!). I will definitely make this again, for a special occasion!

Easy Cinnamon Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
This is not a boiled fudge, therefore it doesn't have the same quality, but it doesn't mean it's not yummy. I put a heaping teaspoon of cinnamon (because I love the stuff!) and no nuts as I didn't have any. I am making it again to take to work this week (it was a hit at my craft club!). I took a shortcut, I microwaved the butter and then added the milk to it, I use skim milk powder to make my milk, and used a wee bit more powder than what is required for 1/4 cup of milk. I sifted all my ingredients in a bowl, mixed them gently, and then added butter/milk mixture to the dry ingredients and stirred with a wooden spoon until all was homogenous. I then poured it in a baking paper lined bread tin, so I had a nice thick fudge (as opposed to more pieces and thinner) which I cut in about 1/2 in. squares. This recipe's a keeper!! (wonder what it would taste like with different spices instead of cinnamon!)

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2006
Oh Yum! We ALL loved them (hubby, me and our daughters which are sometimes picky). I reduced the sugar to one cup, didn't add nuts (not popular with the under 10s in this house), and didn't bother with the icing. I wanted to use them in our girls' lunchboxes, and couldn't justify adding icing. Next time I will try the recipe with half oil, half apple sauce too as I think it would still be nice (but I like sticking to the original the first time). The brownies were not crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, but a nice chocolaty treat. They freeze well and defrost nicely in the children's lunchboxes. I packed my zucchini fairly well when I measured them, and put them in with the oil/sugar mixture and had no problem whatsoever with my batter. I'm about to go share that recipe with friends now. Thank you Marian!
