Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
I've made this twice, once as written & then with improvements. As written, the sauce was not good. Way too tangy & thin. The patties completly fell apart when trying to cook in fry pan. I read all the reviews and improved by: adding 1/2 pack of onion soup mix to ground beef mix, along with worchestire sauce & garlic powder. The just browning the patties in a fry on over high heat & transferring to casserole pan. Make sure to use lean cut of meat, or you'll have a greasy mess. I used same fry pan to make gravy, scrapping leftovers to infuse flavor. Adding about 1/2 cup beef broth, remaining onion soup mix, mustard, ketchup, and a touch of brown sugar. I didn't like the color, so I added a bit of jarred brown gravy to it, this gave that traditional color. While mking the gravy, I sauteed mushrooms and added those to the gravy. Poured over patties and baked 375 45 mins.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
This is a great slow cooker Italian beef! While it doesn't really taste like the Chicago versions, those aren't made in a slow cooker either....I followed the advice of others & added 2 packs of dressing & beef broth. I served on hogies, stuck them in the broiler to melt a slice of cheese on top.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I wouldn't call this a Sloppy Joe, it was more a loose meat (think Maid Rite) sandwich. I had to add 1 can of tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce and a little more mustard for this to taste more like Sloppy Joes. I gave 2 stars because, if I ever want to make Maid Rites, I'd add a can of cola and this would be a good recipe.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2010
This soup was really good! I used 1 can of chix broth (1 1/2 cups) instead of bouillon's, and adjusted water then. Potatoes took longer than 20 mins, more like 30-40mins. I sauteed onions and celery as advised by another post before adding to water. I also added broccoli, had on hand and needed to use up. We liked it added, will make again with it, and maybe some corn and bacon. Before serving I added a dollop of shreeded cheese to the top. We like pepper, so I added extra and a little garlic. I disagree that it's not 8 servings, it is, I question what kind of serving the others are making!?! Make it, won't be disappointed. 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact you can improve a lot!

Tequila Lime Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Not a fan of this, and we're big Tequila fans too! Agree with other review, needed more ground beef, or too moist. The burger just had too much seasonings, and I followed to a "t". Won't make again.

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Really good!! Used croutons and sage flavored sausage. Lots more cheese, onions and mushrooms. Bacon seemed to get hard, won't use that next time.

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Very good. Followed other reviews and pressed the brown sugar into the bacon. Cut the bacon into 3 pieces, perfect size for smokies. When transfered to crock pot, I added 1/4 cup of cola to keep moist....it glazed and was very tasty!

Campbell's Kitchen Chicken with Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
What a way to use chicken breast! Made it 2X in 2 weeks already. Once as written, next with adjustments. Used cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic, which made a huge difference! Added extra sauted mushroom, did them with the onions. Loved the red wine vinager, gave it such a flavor, don't leave out! The fresh Parm was nice, but the jarred tasted just was well. I think that might be personal perference. The sun-dried tomotoes were out of a jar, already sliced, easy & good! If you love mushrooms make this!!

Saucy Chicken Cordon Bleu

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Very good! I read through the reviews before making, & made some changes. Didn't have any paprika or curry on hand, so I just left out. Used Italian style bread crumbs, roasted garlic cream of mushroom soup, & milk instead of wine. I let the chicken sit for about 1 hours after breading, made for much easier time browning. I added enough sauce to the bottom of the pan to cover, then baked for 1 hour (chicken was on the larger side). Last 5 mins, uncovered and added 1 slice of cheese to each chicken. I tossed egg noodles with remaining sauced and then topped with the chicken. Will make again, everyone enjoyed!

Easy Lasagna I

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
This was very easy to make. I did boil my noodles first, just wanted to make sure they weren't hard, as I read this happened in the reviews many times. I added garlic and onions to the ground beef when cooking, along with Italian, pepper, garlic poweder, and basil seasonings. I also used 2 jars of pasta sauce, as 1 wouldn't of been enough. I let the lasagna cool about 30 mins before serving, we actually enjoyed it more the second day. If making in the future, I'll cook and let sit over night.

This was not really chili to us, not too hearty. More like taco soup.

Steff's Shepherd Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
We really enjoyed this. I would have rated 5 stars, but I read thru the reviews and did add all the additional spices. Without adding these I think this may have been bland. I added onion, green pepper, garlic & pepper to ground beef when browning. I used cream of celery soup, peas & corn for veggies. Will make again

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This was a good way to use up a pork shoulder roast I had. Very SWEET, I usually like my pulled pork more BBQ tasting. I read a lot of the reviews before making and only changed 1 thing upon recommendations. I used pineapple juice instead of broth, glad I did. I don't think I would have enjoyed the flavor with chicken broth. I think I'll make this maybe once or twice a year for a change in our routine recipes.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
I followed the recipe, and it was very good! I did add a small onion and half a green pepper to my ground beef when cooking. I did double everything except for the ground beef, when making for just hubby and I. I found there wasn't enough sauce for us. This is for sure "sweeter" than the canned sauces. I read most of the reviews, and we didn't think this was any better or worst then canned mix. I think it cost about the same, and actually when Manwich is on sale, it's cheaper to just use that. For us, we'll stick with the canned version, but this was easy to make.

Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I would rate this ZERO stars, but I had to pick at least 1....... I don't know what I did wrong!? I used 2 bags of micro Popcorn, 1 bag of mini marshmallows, and butter. I got a gooey mess that didn't want to form. I even tried to put into 9x13 pan, no luck! After 2 hours I tried popping another bag of corn thinking I had too much of the mix, that didn't work either. Disappointed due to all the great reviews!
