Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks
I loved that this recipe was simple, yet tasty. I almost added garlic and I'm glad I didn't, because it wasn't necessary! I used extra virgin olive oil, which was a mistake (and admittedly not exactly what the recipe calls for; I presume the recipe's author meant light olive oil). Next time I will omit the butter and use an oil with a higher smoke point to prevent smoke in the house and potentially dangerous chemicals in my food.

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)
This is a wonderful recipe that is fairly simple and yields excellent results! My husband and his family (who are from Mexico and often serve tres leches cakes at parties) all agreed it was delicious. I made it as stated the first time and it was great, but the second time I used another reviewer's recipe for the whipped topping (1 pint heavy whipping cream, 3 tbsp sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla), and I preferred the latter. Some reviewers have stated that it was super sweet, but tres leches cake, in general, is very sweet. This cake tastes best when made a day or so in advance and not removed from the refrigerator until just before serving. Yum!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
SENSATIONAL! Easily the best apple pie I have ever had (and I made it!). My husband said he was not a fan of apple pie until he tried Grandma Ople's. I followed another reviewer's suggestions and added 1 tbsp of vanilla and 1 tsp of cinnamon. I also mixed the apples with 2/3 of the sauce before I added them to the pie pan, then added the rest after I placed the lattice crust on top. I also baked it at 350 degrees the entire time. I placed a baking pan on the lower rack to catch any drippings, and tented the pie with foil for the last 15 mins of baking to prevent the crust from burning. Really, really delicious, and fairly simple recipe. The hardest part was peeling and slicing the apples! This will be my go-to apple pie recipe from now on! NO MORE Marie Callendar's!
