Dessertlover's Classic Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2012
Pretty good recipe for caramel and very easy to do. I used turbinado sugar and regular cream since I didn't have heavy on hand. It's pretty thin, but I did need it thin for the caramel apple salad I was making. Even though I never left the pot, I'm pretty sure I burnt the sugar. For what it's worth, I will be using this recipe again!

Joey's Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
These cookies were pretty good! I scaled down the recipe to do 24, but still used the entire 1 cup of peanut butter. I used half dark chocolate PB and half super chunk and they were very peanut buttery! The first batch I baked at 10 minutes and once they cooled, they were a bit crumbly - these tasted similar to PB fudge. The second batch I timed at 8 minutes but they looked very raw, so I left them in the oven another minute or so and they turned out better than the first batch. The dough was also SUPER sticky on the first batch (even after chilling) so they were very hard to work with. The second batch went in the freezer and rolled out perfectly, so that may of made a difference in the first batch being a bit crumbly. I also added white choc chips for an extra kick. Will make again!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2011
Not a bad recipe but definitely not an easy one! For those of us without a bread machine to do all the work: proof your yeast until it gets all foamy before adding to your dry mixture (I added 1 tsp garlic powder to mine). Mix and knead well and let it rise for about 40 minutes, then follow the rest of the recipe. I couldn't get the balls to not stick to my rolling pin so I just did it by hand. They weren't very pretty this way. I also had a hard time transferring them to the baking rack... they didn't stay round at all (more like deformed oblongs). I was pretty mad at this point. The end result was hit and miss. Some I were able to split open but some I were not. Out of all the pita recipes tried, this has definitely brought me the closest! Despite much frustration, I'll keep trying these until it comes out right.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2011
Although I wish I would of read the reviews before making so I could of known they were more like cake/muffins - I gotta say these are pretty good. I scaled down the recipe to make 24 and added butterscotch chips instead of using icing. I used brown sugar instead of white and a whole can of pumpkin, also pumpkin pie spice instead of what's listed (easier). I didn't feel like making a mess doing drop cookies so I filled greased muffin tins with a bit of the mixture and baked that way. They remind me of muffin tops rather than cookies but can't really complain!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
This was excellent and so easy to make! No baking or slow cooker required - just heat it on the stovetop (less mess and dishes to wash). I used extra buffalo sauce and the canned chicken. Will definitely make again, this stuff is addicting!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2010
I wouldn't call these the "best", but they are okay. Not really like an average sugar cookie either. Won't make them again, but they weren't terrible either.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2010
Not bad. The dough is a pain in the butt because it thaws quickly and sticks to the pin/surface no matter what. Also, make sure your cookie cutters are well defined! Mine have tiny arms so almost all of them got ripped off and was frustrating having to mold makeshift arms back on them. Not spicy at all, and I added more spice than the recipe called for. Hoping the home made cinnamon icing goes well on these!

Papa Drexler's Bavarian Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Extremely easy to make and absolutely delicious - better than the ones in the mall. Once they finished baking, I spread melted butter on them and added the salt (the salt I used was sea salt cracked fresh from a grinder). Will definitely be making these time and time again! Next time will do some variations like garlic and cinnamon/sugar. Can't wait!

Streusel Topped Pumpkin Pie by EAGLE BRAND®

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
The pumpkin pie itself was okay, could of used a bit more spice. The streusel didn't come out like streusel is supposed to at all! It clumped together into a doughy ball... I think regular sugar would of been better for it than brown sugar. Next pumpkin pie will definitely be without the streusel.

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
This crust is amazing! I made two batches on Thanksgiving for pecan & pumpkin pies and both came out better than any I've ever had! I don't have the pastry utensil to cut the butter into the flour so I used a potato masher (that looks like squiggles instead of the grid) and it worked much better than going at it with only a fork. My only issue was with rolling it out. I tried one chilled and one unchilled. I think I had better luck with the unchilled dough even though it was sticking to my rolling pin (sprinked some flour down). The chilled one shrank in the pie plate when pre-cooking it, so I had to put the rest of my pumpkin pie mix in a container to freeze. Regardless, this will be my go-to recipe for pie crust! Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
This pie is excellent! It's a tad too sweet, but it's definitely delicious. I had to cook mine way longer cause it wouldn't set up at all. I still don't think it was fully set up after an hour but enough was enough lol. I used a butter crust from a recipe on here, so maybe that had something to do with it. Will make again!

Fluffy Whole Wheat Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
Did exactly as recipe says, with the exception of subbing buttermilk for the milk. Never had a bad buttermilk biscuit until I tired these! Flavor was like a cardboard box, but they did have a nice consistency i'll give it that. They're edible with butter and honey on them, but I won't be making again unless I have a craving for bland. What a shame, I was hoping they would be a winner.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
Great muffin! Very moist and flavorful. I used whole wheat flour, omitted pecans (didn't have them on hand), added 1 and 1/2 tsp vanilla, added 1 tbsp butter and had to substitute vanilla soy milk since I was out of regular milk. I also had to add peanut butter chips since I didn't have a whole lot of chocolate ones left and it still turned out good, just probably not as good had they been just chocolate chipped. I will definitely make again!

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2009
Great cake base! I used brown sugar for these rather than white (always brown for me). Instead of milk, I used a cup of buttermilk and added a little bit extra vanilla. I added some shredded cocounut in the mixture as I was making coconut cupcakes and everything turned out great! I will definitely be using this recipe for all my cake bases! It was moist and a nice medium of being fluffy and dense. I keep the cupcakes in the fridge then pop em in the microwave for 20 seconds and it's just like being fresh out of the oven again, yum!

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
These cookies were phenominal! I scaled down the recipe to make 2 dozen. Having used a whole bag of chocolate chips, I had a hard time getting the chips to stay in the dough but it was worth the patience because the cookies turned out so chocolately and delicious. Rolling them into balls before baking made them nicely shaped and they weren't flat at all. I gave some away to co-workers and neighbors and they were a smash hit! I can't wait to make these again and again and again!

Real Hummus

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I did not care for this hummus, I am so disappointed! I spent half an hour just trying to get it to be smooth, what a nightmare! This is too lemony! I even roasted some of my garlic to make it taste better but no luck. I will NOT be making this again.
