Thanks to all who offered advice on successful meal planning.  Last time I got paid I successfully planned a menu for 2 weeks, went grocery shopping according to the menu, and managed to go the whole 2 weeks sticking to the menu and without going to Kroger at all, and therefore did not spend… MORE

As I was playing in the kitchen this evening, I found myself listening to Billy Joel's Greatest Hits.  Music has always touched my soul, so much I sometimes get chills.  I also forgot how much certain music keeps me moving in the kitchen and motivated in general.  The song "Only Human" came… MORE

Why oh why am I having so much trouble using the menu planner here, and why can't I stick to a food budget? It's not technical difficulties, it's more that I can be really motivated, plan a menu, get to that day of the week and go "hmmm, that's not really what I want today, and end up going… MORE

Lately I have been questioning my roots...I grew up a home where cooking and eating was an afterthought.  Eating was not done at the table together, it was usually done in separate rooms, at different times, in front of the TV.  My developmental diet consisted of meat and potatoes, McDonalds,… MORE

About Me
I am very portable right now and have very little space. Some of my tools are makeshift due to my budget - which is what makes it fun and challenging for me. Most of my cooking is done for 1-2 people. Sometimes for my dogs.
My favorite things to cook
Italian (minus oregano - YUCK), vegetarian
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is NOT a cook, I taught myself. My family traditions/ tastes are Italian, although my family is german/ polish, my grandmother was Italian, and some of my best memories are going to her house for lasagna, etc, and everyone sitting down together, which we did not do at our own house.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking makes me happy. Trying new recipes is exciting to me. That in itself is a triumph in my life right now!! Chicken marsala, originally made by my ex husband that I have tweaked.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to note here. I enjoy transforming into a MAAAAD scientist in the kitchen. Although I get very frustrated with myself when I have to waste anything.
