About this Cook
I'm a stay at home mom and I love getting creative in the kitchen. I grew up in Saudi Arabia (my Dad was in oil and gas) and developed an appreciation for mediteranian flavors. I think radishes are greatly under used in American foods!
My favorite things to cook
The food I love to cook when company is coming: Standing rib roast with amazing yorkshire pudding. They are even more impressive because I live at 7600 feet and just getting them to rise above the top of the muffin tin took some practice!
My favorite family cooking traditions
In my home, my Dad was the cook. He makes the most AMAZING gravy. That is what he is known for at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He and I would work together in the kitchen on special occasions and would sample the gravy constantly until we were happy with the results.
My cooking triumphs
This thanksgiving my mother-in-law and I worked in the kitchen together for 5 hours to create one of the best meals I have ever had. The turkey was perfect, I made my Dads gravy and stuffing recipe and all the side dishes finished at exactly the same time! The next day we had company over for my favorite, standing rib roast and yorkshire pudding. My mother-in-law seemed to think I was just throwing things together and it all turned out well. Little did she know that I have been practicing often to make these dishes work well.
My cooking tragedies
One time we had company over and she was a vegan due to allergies. I tried to make a dish that asked for rice noodles and the whole thing was just a pile of mush when I was done. I wish I had made a practice dish the day before, but she was gracious and managed to choke it down.

Broccoli, Leek, and Potato Soup
This wasn't bad. I think you have to like broccoli, leeks and potatoes to really love this soup. My family doesn't and it fell flat as a result. The broccoli was a dominate flavor and I might have cut back on the quantity if I'd known. Also, I let the soup get too hot after adding the milk and it separated a bit. Other than that it was a nice "stick to your bones" kind of soup.

Chile Rellenos
I agree with a previous reviewer that whipping the eggs whites and folding in the yolks is an absolute must for the batter. With really hot oil it cooks up light very light and melts in your mouth. I also used pepper jack cheese, as it was all I had in the house, and loved it. This may very well be my favorite dish.

French Crepes
These crepes are delicious without any modification. I suppose a little vanilla would have enhanced the flavor, but even as they are they were wonderful. Yes you get crispy edges. I love that. One reviewer mentioned that if you pour from the edge of the pan it helps and I have to agree. It takes some practice to get just the right thickness throughout the crepe, but this recipe certainly makes enough batter to do that. In my 12" saute pan I can make about 15 or so. I might even half the recipe next time I make if for the kids. That's a lot of crepes!
