Roasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
HANDS DOWN the best garlic bread I have ever had. Roasting the garlic makes all the difference. I served this with a delicious lasagna but everyone was just filling up on the bread. I can stop looking for the Holy Grail of garlic bread. I've found it.

Chocolate Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
This recipe did not work for me. It might be because I let it boil for too long (5 minutes) as I thought that would help with the consistency issue people described. Mine got nice and thick but as it cooled, the sugar started to re-crystalize and the syrup got grainy, like there was sand in it. That wasn't even the worse problem though - it tasted bad. I woldn't ruin a good bowl of ice cream with this stuff even if it was smooth. The flavor just tasted like the cooked sugar rather than chocolate. I'm almost tempted to try it again since so many others had good results and said the taste was great.

Herb Roasted Pork

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
5 stars - great recipe. I didn't have sage so I added rosemary and tarragon. It was still fantastic. And the glaze was perfect! My method of cooking is fast roasting at high heats. I cooked a 3.5 lb. loin at 500 degrees for 45-50 minutes. The meat thermometer reads a perfect 160 when the meat is done. the short quick time means the meat doesn't have time to dry out; stays so juicy and tender. I've learned to cook all my roasts this way and will never go back to slow, 3 hour+ cooking (except for cheap, tough cuts of meat). I highly recommend that this fast cooking method with this recipe and you will have a loin you can cut with a fork.

Roasted Pears with Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
This is a really good recipe, but you have to understand that it's very sweet. I reduced the sugar to half a cup and I still found that it hurt the back of my jaw from sweetness. Having said that, the sour cream does add the much needed acidity to cut the sweetness so I am giving it a 5 star rating.

Scott Hibb's Amazing Whisky Grilled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
I hate to dissent from the crowd, but I thought this recipe was just OK. I followed the recipe exactly - I even went out and bought whiskey and liquid smoke. I liked the cooking method - the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender - but the sauce was nothing special to me. It wasn't bad and my family said they liked the ribs, but I honestly think it would have been just as good with my favorite store bought BBQ sauce. I have tasted some incredible homemade sauces, but this one was just average to me.

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
The perfect yellow cake recipe! I used the all-purpose flour adjustment and it came out great. I'll bet it's even better with the cake flour, but I was very satisfied with my results. I used it for cupcakes and baked for 18 minutes. I ended up with 2 dozen cupcakes. This recipe is a keeper!

Pad Thai

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I followed this recipe to the "T", except that I doubled the sauce ingredients. I was really disappointed - it was not very flavorful. It doesn't even come close to the taste of restaurant Pad Thai. For me, it wasn't worth the effort - I will not be making this again.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
Perfect as-is! When i told my mom what we were having for dinner, she was disappointed, saying she did not like tilapia. She tried it though and absolutely LOVED it. She realized she likes tilapia, but just never had it prepared well. This recipe is really delicious and very quick to make.

Indian Curried Barley Pilaf

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
This is a great side-dish alternative to rice or potatoes. I added more curry and cinnamon for a bit more spicy flavor. The raisins add just the right touch of sweetness. The barley does not get soft and mushy but retains a little crunchiness. Perfect. This one is a keeper for me.

Boston Baked Beans

So easy and so good. I doubled the recipe and then made a little extra sauce because i like the beans very moist. This recipe is a keeper!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
I ended up liking this recipe, but I'm only giving it a 3 because I had to doctor it up to get it to my liking. It was pretty bland as the recipe is written. I added a lot of onion powder and garlic powder, which really helped. When I had the leftovers the next day, I added nutmeg which I think was really good. I will make again, but I'd like to try replacing 1/2 the cream cheese with sour cream.

Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
This is a really nice recipe that I will definitely make again. I gave it a 4 because as written, I didn't think it was cheesy enough. I added a total of 3 cups of cheese. It took longer to cook than I expected; maybe I sliced the potatoes too thick. Next time I might make this a day ahead because it heats up very nicely.
